I'm not sure about this but look at this lil memoir to Cubillas in the Portugal forums. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171979&page=1&pp=15
I cant front, I enjoy Brazilian and Portuguese soccer since they have similar styles. But who would've thought he is still getting recognition. He was our Pele dammit
From what I read here (a very entertaining and informative thread, at least for me), there seems to be some discrepancy on this subject.
johan youre the man, that goal against Scotland is a beauty. Sotil was better though hince he was signed by Barcelona and Cubillas went to Porto. BTW those 70s NT shirts were awesome.
Here's the video of the goal (with Scottish commentary) http://www.mytempdir.com/344647 Yeah, me too. I remember seeing Holland on TV play Peru in the groupstages of the worldcup 1978, I never saw a team with such a shirt, that red diagonal stripe looked awesome.
thanks so much man, if you have anything else please post it up. out of rep, everyone should rep johan
From what I hear (uncles). No way was Cubillas the best . The most famous yes. But lets not get confused. Chumpitaz and Sotil I heard where way better. After a six pack of beers at the polladas that my family throws, my uncles where better than Cubillas
i agree with jlscrub people think he was the best but he was our # 10 , come one in those times every NT 10 was the star, but he wasnt the best if he would be the best he owuld make it to Milan like gallardo, Barcelona like Sotil or other mos important teams than Poto i mean Porto, anyway Portuguese league was always a "mediocre" league of Europe ...
Yeah, it's quite easy. I always use GIF Movie Gear If anyone's interested, here's a short clip of some Peru-moments from the worldcup 1978 (but you've all probably seen this before): http://www.mytempdir.com/346421
Damn I cant beleive Menotti said that ther was "un gran differencia" between Peruvian and Argentine futbol. That statement is true today. But not in 1978. They should always kiss our asss for giving them their first world cup. That WC victory is what catapulted them to what they are now. Peruanos need to have some more respect for themselves. I would punch an argentine in the mouth if he ever said ******** about Peruvian futbol.
