I found a picture last month of an all star team that I played on taken in Spartan Stadium (facing the South End Zone). This would have been in either 1977 or 1978 prior to a warm up game before a Quakes game. I won't tell you which is me...
Dude!! I played in one of those games!! I, and a couple of teammates from Blossom Valley (South San Jose) were on an all star team and I clearly remember when the game started there were probably only our parents in the crowd. Then, as the game went on, I looked up and there must have been 5,000 people in the stands! I was so pumped! It also was the only game I had ever gotten a red card in. Only about 3 minutes left in the game, to boot!! Thanks for sharing. You made my week!!
You are welcome. Started off with just parents, and towards the end, there were a lot of people. It felt like an out of body experience. Funny, I don't remember much about the game.
Heh, Neither do I except for the last 3 minutes of our game. I was playing stopper and this forward kept punching me in the back every time I got the ball. I didn't do anything until later when he went up for a header. I just stood there watching and as he came down I just leveled him. Straight red! I remember a section in the crowd booing me as I walked off the field. Game ended two minutes after. After a few years of watching the Quakes play at Spartan Stadium then actually getting a chance to play on that pitch before one of their games was one of the highlights of my young life. Thanks again for the memories!!
Last year of playing in AYSO Region 35 (West San Jose/Cupertino). In fact, this may have been the last game playing AYSO before moving to CYSA Sunnyvale United for my high school years.

"New San Jose Earthquakes NASL documentary well worth a watch" (Center Line Soccer - Thursday, 5/21/20) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, and also not sure this is the right thread for this: In yesterday's The Athletic, David Lombardi had a post on the Bay Area's top Dynastic teams. No surprise, the Niners, Warriors and A's got top billing. But guess who came in 7th? The 2001-03 Quakes! A nice surprise, considering the sports media here doesn't pay too much attention to our MLS team. Hats off to Dave Lombardi and the 01-03 Quakes!!
Just watched it. Too many wonderful memories. Going to my first game in 1974, starting as season ticket holders in 1975, Crazy George landing in helicopter, Pele, attending soccer camps at SCU and meeting players, catching a ball kicked in the stands before a game, parking at Southern Lumber and walking to the games, Boris Badanov, Jonnie Moore, Demling Borthers, Art Welch. On and on and on... I feel privileged to be part of the beginning of soccer in the San Jose and US. The energy in the stadium was amazing and the crowd was so loud. GO QUAKES!!!!
