'01 Irish U19 central defender Oisin McEntee has played every minute for Newcastle U18 squad this year. McEntee was born in New York and is eligible to play for the US, but would need to file a one-time switch. I'd been trying to pin this one down for a while but couldn't confirm. Here's an old Detective Work Thread post that has some more info. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/th...-a-yank-detective-work-thread.1987805/page-28 Of some note, during an appearance for the IYNT (which may have been in the competition that cap-tied him, but I'm not 100% certain offhand and don't feel like looking it up) he was pressed into emergency GK duty. (I guess the lad's versatile.) Brings back fond Eddie Gaven memories.

'01 US-born Ireland U19 captain and Newcastle CB Oisin McEntee has been nominated for PL2 Player of the Month. (Oddly no Folarin Balogun.)A pipe-dream prospect because not only is he rated well but also Ireland likely doesn't have good youth depth like other Euro nations have. https://t.co/TjtuFtm9wv— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) March 7, 2020

Has anyone come across any details on his American connection, apart from that he was born in New York? I've seen very little, apart from some references to him having moved back to Ireland when he was young/as a youth/while a youngster/during his, shall we say, not-particularly-old phase.

Here's a somewhat dated story that gets into his youth. He's been back across the pond most of his life: 18-year-old McEntee was born in New York but moved back to Cavan with his family at a young age, playing with local clubs before making the switch to Dublin where he lined out with Belvedere and Malahide United. https://www.the42.ie/oisin-mcentee-18-year-old-defender-newcastle-u23-4440363-Jan2019/
