My guess is that Paul Marie will be the starting left back. I view that as a regression over Marcos. We have played Beason at left back so I guess that is possible as well.
none of that is remotely close to ideal but, that is literally what San Jose is thinking. I was hoping it wasnt, but if we are going for the spoon this year, might as well
Discussion of the new signings is buried in other threads, and I've barely seen any discussion of Rodrigues, who I'm actually more interested in than Akapo (possibly naively, but we'll see).
I wasn’t really paying attention as I was on my way out but I could have sworn I heard Anthony Passarelli say that because of visa issues, only one of the new signings will be ready by the end of the month. If that is the case , we will only see some of the new guys for 7-8 games, if that….
Doesn't matter - neither of these signings move the needle at all in terms of either fan interest or potential to turn things around. We're stuck at zero....
We’ were the worst defense in the league and Leitch sold two starting defenders with replacements that are mainly for next year (and won’t move the needle much anyway). With a lame duck coach who replaced a coach who didn’t want to be here to begin with. I can remember seasons where we made big mistakes in who we hired as coach or which players we signed. We’ve never had a season where we so clearly are throwing the season away. Hopefully by this time next year we will have completely forgotten about this year. I think that’s what Leitch is hoping for.
The 2018 season with Mikael Stahre was pretty bad. Getting rid of Victor Bernardez before the season was a pretty dumb move as even though he was 36-37, I think he could have helped us out a great deal. He certainly couldn't have done any worse. I also think Almeyda would have liked him as he spoke Spanish but mostly for his tenacious play. Everyone forgets , we made the 2017 playoffs solely because of Bernardez long ball pass to Wondo who in turn passed off to Ureña for the winning goal against Minnesota United.
If anyone thought Chris Leitch as GM might be the start of something positive in San Jose, they were sadly mistaken. Worst season ever.
Rodrigues is in town. I suppose we might see him make an appearance in a few weeks, for our last 5 games playoff push!! Rodrigues has touched down in San Jose! pic.twitter.com/LQf4EDHxMU— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) August 28, 2022
