That is tough one...Hardin Simmons coach might be the best in D3 and I would think he would be someone if interested they would look at. Same goes for maybe a Trinity in Texas...while not at the same academic level they are certainly top notch coaches...may not have the NCAA deep runs as often but also dont have the resources or academics to be there every year...The Disckinson coach struggled at Hamline before moving to Dickinson...I still think he is the front runner..
I don’t think they will look at any coach who doesn’t have experience finding those rare academic soccer players. If the 1500 problem is real, and I think it is, then that limits the candidate pool right off the bat. Add to that an acceptance rate at right below 13% and you’ve created an even smaller pool of similar experience. Williams acceptance rate was similar, CMU’s much higher, MIT & Chicago’s two of the lowest in the country.
While the Dickinson coach is a natural choice based on being an alum and a former assistant at JHU (which may be a negative for the new AD), the school he recruits for isn’t in the same neighborhood as Hopkins academically. They accept Over 50% of applicants and their average SAT is more than 100 pts lower than their Centennial foe. Compared to the Dickinson option, it would make more sense to keep the current asst on as the head coach. Carries the same baggage being part of the old regime, but he knows the current players (including the incoming class) and it sounds like he was acting as the head coach without the recognition for at least the last couple of years. If the AD’s issue was more health related and less wins-losses, that would seem to be a good fit.
When Yale replaced their Head coach last year they picked someone who did not come from a background of recruiting and coaching academic elites. Of course he only lasted one season before the student newspaper torpedoed his tenure there so maybe they won't do that again.

Any additional news on JHU? Not exactly the best time of year to get traction on a hiring process. Assuming we will hear a lot in January.

Williams doing on campus interviews over next 2 weeks. Current coach still there through academic year so they aren't in a hurry. D3 schools generally dont like to pay 2 people at the same time.
Another difference between D1 and D3: The Oregon coach resignation was announced November 8 (Seven year record 47-74-13) and they announced hiring two time WC winning USWNT goalkeeper coach Graeme Abel as the new head coach on December 30. BTW, Eugene, OR native and HS senior GK Hailey Coll signed a National Letter of Intent in 2018 to play under the previous Oregon coach (she said she grew up wanting to be a Duck). She is on the NWSL draft list released yesterday, which she may have applied for before the new Oregon coach was named.
Which suggests to me that maybe she will be the Thorns' #3 backup keeper. They carry two on the roster, plus have a third available. If one of those three is moving on, the Thorns will want to replace her. Coll has been on the Thorns' youth team. This would let her train under the guidance of one of the best female GKs ever, who also has turned out to be an excellent GK coach.
Thanks for responding here! I just posted about Coll in the 2020 NWSL draft thread - sort of double posting, but I figured the two readerships are different. Your points make me think that Coll really was/is strategizing to go pro and skip college.
On December 30, NWSL released its preliminary list of 98 players registered for the 2019 draft: http://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/arti...st-of-players-eligible-for-2020-college-draft I spotted 5 non-Division 1 players: 1 from D3, 3 from D2, and 1 High School Senior (none from NAIA, yet). On January 10, NWSL released its updated list of 165 players registered for the 2020 draft: https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/art...st-of-players-eligible-for-2020-college-draft Among the 67 added players, I spotted 1 from D3 and 5 from D2. None from NAIA yet which is unusual. D3 Mia White , 5’6”, F/M, Rochester Institute of Technology (11-5-2) From Littleton, CO I have watched Mia in person a handful of times – she is a baller and a leader – team captain this year. She also happens to be deaf. 2019 League Player of the Year Played in every game all 4 years. 2019: 5G & 10A D2 Maegen Doyle, 5’5”, M/F, University of Bridgeport (9-7-3) From Harwich, England 2019 CoSIDA Academic All American 2nd Team 2019 USC Scholar All American 3rd Team All Conference 1st Team - 2X 2019: 16G & 9A Jenna Fannon, 5’4”, M, Goldey-Beacom College (11-7-2) From Newark, DE 2019 Conference Player of the Year 2019: 25G & 7A; that’s 1.25 GPG Chelsea Marozik, 5’4”, D, Central Washington University (8-9-1) From Ellensburg, WA I couldn't find any interesting tidbits about Chelsea, sorry. Thanks! Sorry I missed her. Now that you mention it, I recall noticing her name the first time I scanned the updated list, but unfortunately it did not stick in my head. The final list for the 2020 Draft was posted well after 4pm yesterday and it had 90 or so new names. They don’t list the added players separately, so it is time consuming to read the list and ID the non-D1 players, because outside of D3 and the obvious D1 schools, I do not know which school is in which division. In addition to Taylor Cohen, I also missed Brianna Lau , M/D, of D3 Pomona Pitzer in my previous post, sorry. (I even had her highlighted in yellow) Here are names and schools of the Non-D1 Players added to the draft list; we finally have some NAIA players, and one more high-schooler. Of course, I may have missed or miss-identified someone. NAIA Madeleine Berthoud, F/M, Westmont College Abigail Bush, M/D, University of Mobile Cheyne Bush, F, University of Mobile Heidi Giles, D, University of Mobile Anna Haeberlin, GK, Keiser University D3 Jenna Beck, D, Salisbury University D2 Ashley Dozier, M/D, St. Mary’s University Annsion Fucci, M, Georgian Court University Emma Heikkila, F/M, Nova Southeastern University Megan Kneefel, GK, Fort Hays State University Mary Reilly, F/M/D, University of California San Diego High School Chelsea-Anne Calder, D, Braintree HS, Braintree MA 26906
Thanks, CoachJon, for taking time to list the players. This list from NWSL may be more inclusive. It also list the youth clubs that the players were affiliated with. https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/art...st-of-players-eligible-for-2020-college-draft I'm wondering about the HS players that are eligible. If they make themselves available for the draft and are not selected, does that mean that they are no longer eligible for collegiate soccer?
I believe they are still eligible. See this post from @BostonRed [Item 12.2.4.2.4 Exception—Sports Other Than Basketball and Football] https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/2020-nwsl-draft.2107087/page-2#post-38400522 Hailey Coll committed to Oregon, so I believe she needs to notify them, if she does want to play there. I could not readily find any info about college for Chelsea-Anne Calder.
Williams Head Coach has been announced: https://ephsports.williams.edu/sports/wsoc/2019-20/releases/20200212w68vtc
This one is predictable as the husband is the Williams football coach. Had some stronger candidates but went with the inside hire.
