Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. I need to reevaluate what I'll drive out to Tinley Park for nowadays. Maybe I'll sell the ffdp tickets.
I'm getting a little tired of my playlists so I listened to Supertramp's Breakfast in America on the way to work this morning. I think I'm going to listen to Marvin Gaye's What's Going On? on the way home.
This is from the first ever post in the first ever Music Thread from two years ago, but I still love it:
In fact, I just spent the past 2 hours going through the first three music threads. Was really interesting to see my own taste grow and actually finding some cool moments that changed a lot of what I listen to now. This post on March 19th 2016 was the first time I'd ever heard Tom Waits. Now I use a few of his songs to practice and enjoy Nighthawks at the Diner. This post from just three days later as my intro to Best Coast, which probably kickstarted my interest to this day of the new wave of female lead singers (Also her twitter game is really good). This post from June 3rd seems to mark the point that I genuinely got into Garbage, who wrote one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar (Bleed Like Me) I'm pretty sure this post in July of 2016 was my first exposure to St. Vincent, though my real interest in her came almost a whole year later. Her music inspired me to release my own music, so she's pretty important and it's really cool to go back and watch that interest grow and happen. This post a month later marks when I found Julien Baker, who was another major inspiration for my music. This post was where I'd finally gotten my first regular live show (my senior year). It took me six tries (one for each semester), but I finally got it on my seventh. Then there was the time that I had helped change someone else's musical tastes (@skinut ) I'm pretty sure this post is where I got deep into The National, which would also help as an inspiration for my album and another group of songs I'd first learn on guitar. This post in April of 2017 is where I started genuinely listening to Chance, which I think was the point where I gave in and began to love rap. Here in May of last year is when I actually started listening to St. Vincent, although my posting of this video on July 29th is where I usually pinpoint the moment I dropped everything and fell in love with her music. Then in September I released a collection of songs I'd recorded with a friend. The reaction that I got from you guys encouraged me to do even more, which included deciding that I wanted to learn guitar a month later. This purchase that I made changed my life with the fact that from that moment on I was listening to music every single second of every day. I also really like watching myself discovering new bands and getting extremely excited on here. This one is when I found The Regrettes. And then came this, which really wraps this trip down memory lane for me quite nicely: Thank you guys for all of your influences and encouragement for the past two years of these threads.
Well great I get home from work drink 3/4 of a beer and check Facebook. Apparently there is a cover band named after this song playing in a park maybe 20 minutes away. Not gonna drive but shit. Maybe I should spend more time looking for shit to do IRL than reading big soccer.
