Agree with this. He covered a lot of ground at both ends of the park and helped out Phil Neville big time while putting a lot of pressure on Toure at the other end. Anyone who thinks he didn't have a good game today knows zero about the game. Simple as that.
There were a few times he maybe should have chased a guy when some of Arsenal's middle players slid out to his side but overall I think "shape" was more important than that and he stuck to his task. I do agree he could be aggressive going forward but new guy, new team, 4 days of practice has something to do with that. Better yet, it shows how focused he was not to screw up and make sure he was contributing. I think after a few games you will see some great interplay with his teammates. I also think that when he slowed the game down that actually helped Everton maintain their defensive shape. As for the media, they liked him and when you consider how little time he has had to prepare that is impressive. If it continues you might be surprised what someone would splash out for him. They are like lemmings over there sometimes. I think the more aggressive teams may be tougher for him but they will also provide more opportunity to beat a guy with a touch and counterattack as most of those teams play pretty open. Should be fun to watch. In Moyes' interview on BBC he said he would have left him out there if not for the cramps.
Rositzki is the proper pronunciation, per my Slovak wife. There are some differences in pronunciation between Czech & Slovak, but that is not one of them.
I think the 'Yanks Abroad Gameday' forum opened very early in Adu's tenure at Benfica (August 2007), but after his debut. Found this gameday thread for his debut in the general Yanks Abroad forum .... CL qualifier vs. Copenhagen, 662 posts https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=584484
Yep. a 'c' is pronounces 'ts' so that '-bec' sounds like 'bets' rather than 'beck' Good to see Rosicky healthy again.
Deja Vu. Lots of posts before being closed by mods. And a 1 star thread rating. (Too lazy to look it up, but I assume the thread ratings were higher later on, when he played better. I also kind of thought Landon's first games at Bayern would have had some long threads.)
Donovan does cover a ton of ground and he gets there in a hurry. Impressive that he played so well in his first EPL match 1 week after landing in England. Good move by Moyes bringing him in. Everton certainly needs players with their injury woes and to have one the quality of Donovan, even if very short term, appears to be a huge boost.
Count me as one who would love to see Everton buy him from LA (if he continues being able to play regularly). What better prep for the World Cup than to finish the season playing against the quality players in the EPL.
Certainly, though I don't see there's any real chance that even could happen, no matter how much Moyes comes to value him. Another matter, that right mid spot's incumbent is Mikel Arteta... Speaking purely theoretically, assuming that Donovan similarly impresses throughout his 10 weeks--not a given-- and as if money were no object to Everton, the biggest reason Moyes might want to consider him long-term would be if he could not hold on to Pienaar. Otherwise, if he gets all his players back, he's got a full house again. Donovan might by degrees be better than some of Moyes's other options, but the others will not cost a cash-strapped Everton a 12-15 million dollar transfer fee.
All details aren't known, but it was revealed that Donovan's contract has a release clause in it . . . and, as someone else mentioned, don't underestimate the pressure of the fans and media. If Donovan plays this well throughout, and maybe, just maybe EVEN BETTER, anyone and everyone will be calling for Everton to try to keep him.
Toffees fans have already tentatively begun the buzz, but of course a bad match or two could kill it. There's also the other matter, which is that if he plays well and Everton does not splurge, another suitor in the EPL might in the summer transfer window. For now, let's just say that we all have reason to be cautiously optimistic, contingent upon continued good play by Landon. (This was the best soccer news I'd gotten by far since we'd qualified and drawn Group C. This match report is close to Group C's level in terms of how excited it's gotten me.)
For what its worth if Landon actually scores on his cut into goal the expectations would sink him or any breathing human being.
Not much in The Telegraph, but he received the highest rating on his squad... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...6957243/Arsenal-2-Everton-2-match-report.html
The Sun had nothing but praise for the American saying he gave Everton an extra creative edge and calling his debut impressive. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2801828/Arsenal-2-Everton-2.html
I wouldn't agree with that. He was solid yes, and it's probably the best sort of debut he could have asked for short on scoring a goal, but Fellaini, Heitinga and Cahill all outscored him.
Maybe a bit of ballet stuffing going on again. I would say Fellaini was motm - he was everywhere, tireless and made things unpleasant for Arsenal all game long.
This site (http:// www. ********.com / forum / showthread .php?t=145562) is a great resource for downloading match torrents. You'll have to register for access to the match. Good game from Landon yesterday.
I think that'sprobably over enthusaistic Donovan fans pushing his rrating up.. Fellaini for me undoubtedly man of the match. Donovan didn't get involved to begin with, but had a good spell either side of the break and then had to come off in the 68th minute with cramp, that's not for me a man of the match performance. I'd give Donovan a 6.5 or maybe even a 7, but I'd give Fellaini an 8 or an 8.5.
That's what I was thinking. Even as an optimist, 7s and 8s just seem to be overstating his impact on the match. When he got the ball, yes, he did well, but he was't getting the ball as much as some others. Perhaps this is just a shock moment for everyone in England who, up to this point, refused to believe how good Donovan (as well as other Americans) really is. If you expect him to put on the same miserable performance he made as a young inexperienced player in the Champions League, then of course you're going to think he really lit it up yesterday.
I remember thinking when Cahill turned the corner on Gallas that Donovan should have no problem in this league. He has twice the speed and is deceptively strong on the ball. I recall the breakaway against the Poland team where at midfield a defender literally tried to throw him off the ball and Donovan kept his balance and ball. His many cutbacks in this game I thought were motivated by lack of blue shirts in the box and maybe a decision to hold up a bit more rather than attack. I think that served Everton very well as they couldnt hold possession when it counted in the last 15minutes.
Ahh, geez, and very early in my tenure too. Totally forgot about that. I knew something felt off -- that changes everything! All right, the historical record must be corrected: 1.
