Why no Love for Zack T I am suprised that Big Soccer has no love for the guy. No thread gets any response and no information ever comes out of the ones posted. I dont want to goto the Portugal area to search for YA information on him - I want to hear it here. So the big questions are 1 - What is really going on with the big guy? 2 - Does anyone have details on his day to day and his potential to actually suit up? 3 - Who can explain the glaring apathy about him on BigSoccer when compared to threads bursting with commentary about less successful players off in semi-professional european leagues? 4 - Do you think he ever wants to pick up one of the little portugese players writhing on the ground in 'mid-dive' and body slam them like the pro-wrestler he could be? Personally, I could not think of a worse league to goto and hope he uses it as a springboard to somewhere better, even back home again. I know there is deep history with the league and traditionally a few good teams, but Christ, they all act like soliders in a war reinactment getting shot and falling over. If nobody responds to this I guess I will have my answer to all three - not bad for a first thread post.
Re: as I suspected how can there be love when he hasn't set foot on the field...or sat his fat ass on the subs bench?
Re: as I suspected i'm a huge thornton fan, and i try to keep tabs on the portuguese super liga; but the only answers to those questions are "i don't know". i was really excited when i heard that he was going to not just a super liga club, but also a perennial competitor 'in europe'. but, geez, he's not even getting to the bench. hey, i'd be interested in knowing how things are going in training; but who the heck knows? as soon as he gets so much as a minute with the first side, i'll be tracking any threads on him. i (like, i'm sure, many at bigsoccer) continue to monitor benfica's results for any signs of progress.
disappointed I can go look up Benefica results and soccernet news...thats not the point. Like I said, strange to me that so many bigsoccer threads include very specific knowledge and connections to info on players - but with Zack nothing like that exists....
Re: disappointed my bad. how 'bout this?: boy, i sure bet zach would like to pick up one of the little portuguese players writhing on the ground in 'mid-dive' and body slam them like the pro wrestler that he could be.
Re: Re: disappointed Point made - I'll wind my neck in now...too much coffee on my end....sorry! do like the idea of him as a wrestler cheers
He was recommended to Benfica by Dan Gaspar, who is American and has coached (and maybe still does) keepers for Portugese clubs. Try a thread search on him,he's a more interesting YA story than Zorthon,IMO.
So quite seriously, Gaspar has something at stake here too. If Thornton arrived out of shape, it makes Gaspar look unreliable. If Thornton is being shut out of promised playing time/substitute time, then what American keeper would trust Gaspar next time he says there is an opportunity in Portugal?
This is what I've heard from a someone who just returned from Portugal and had a chance to speak with him for awhile. He's playing with the reserve team at the moment and they're working on getting his weight down. So, he's doing a lot of running. He's happy with his decision to play there and it sounds as though he will get a chance at playing for the first team. I wish I had more to tell but that's all I know. A+, Fonsos
good news.I must say that it was obvious that being that HUGE could not improve his mobility. Look at Adin Brown- he is just as big if not bigger, but he is 100% fitter.
Thornton, Zach 6-3 230 Brown, Adin 6-5 200 so he needs to loose like 30-50 pounds , how long will that take, will the contract run out before then ?
