    Great post!

    I know about and have seen Jonathon Spector, Jemal Johnson, Jay Denny and Brian Mascerenhas play. I would love to know more about;

Andrew Britton, Tom Parrot, Jon-Paul Pittman, Darren Randolph, Giuseppe Rossi & Sebastian Hines.

    Thanks.

P.S. I thought that Masceranhas had left Tottenham and gone back to the U.S.?

There must be a background story for a lot of these players. Gianni Moccia in Italy? Stefan Durr in Germany? Octavio Pino in Argentina?

We're talking sort of, kind of American, aren't we? Not, this kid was born in U.S.A. or this kid came here at a young age, but more like this kid flew over the States a couple of times.

Do all these guys speak English?

Actually, none of the players on these lists have background stories of any kind.

    ;)

To the best of my knowledge these are all American citizens one way or another. (That's not to say I haven't made sevreal errors.) Many of the guys from Germany also play Euro ODP or for American high schools over there -- those programs have lots of military kids in them.

Quite possible. Can you (or anyone else) confirm this?

I see lots of "Mexico" in the first post....not that there is anything wrong with that....but makes you wonder where their loyalties, was there a US NT opportunity, would lie if there is also a chance to play for Mexico... I'm not trying to pick on these kids as others have with respect to, say, Rossi.....These kids are all certainly Yanks and deserve to be mentioned and followed......Just wondering whether Mexican clubs have sort of become wiser and want to get our youngsters at earlier and earlier ages, and in numbers they have not done in the past.... much like Euro clubs have, but with the added quirk some of these kids would also qualify to play for "El Tri"...hmmm

Well, yeah, but so were Tom Dooley and David Regis, and the bottom line was that the played World Cup for us because we were crummy enough to give them a job. Kinda like playing David Cup tennis for Ireland.

There are guys like that and guys like Freddie Adu or Chris Armas or Pablo Mastroeni, who were born elsewhere but are 100% red, white, & blue in their outlook. I would much prefer that we only play the latter group. We should have more pride than to be somebody's back-up country.

Hopefully we're past those days when anyone who played in Europe and had US citzenship was deemed automatically good enough to play for the USMNT. The talent pool has expanded quite a bit since those days. Kind of reminds me of the Reggae Boyz when Jamaician coaches were running around the UK asking black players about their parents. Or the Greek wormen's olympic softball team... Geesh I hope those days are over.

Right. I believe that they both came over quite young, say age 4 or so.

ASC NEUENHIEM = American Soccer Club Neuenhiem, basically the Heidelberg Tornados soccer club joining the local german village club. American kids whose parents are stationed in the Army in Heidelberg. Probably a couple hundred American kids playing at some level at the local village/town teams throughout Germany...Ramstien...Darmstadt...Mannheim.. Hanau..etc...

Brian Mascarenhas will be playing for the Region III (Southeast) team at the 1986 birth year Interregional in Chula Vista the first week in January.

Dave - add Garrett Gunther, a 16 year old from Orange County, to the list. He is with the RC Genk U17s in Belgium. He's not EU eligible so only there with the youth academy, but from the sounds of it doing pretty well.

Maybee your thinking of Tom Parrat('86 - Born in Scotland grew up in the US) a defender from Birmingham City that usually features in their reserve fixtures on a weekley basis. There has not been much intrest in him recently because he has represented Scottland's youth teams in the past year. His mother used to post openly i think her name was Polly22 or something like that.

Two more former So. Cal Regional ODP players in Mexico. Both were on the National Champion state ODP team in 2002 (?).

F/AM Briant Mejia (late 87)-- He's supposed to be at Necaxa although I haven't been able to prove that yet. Necaxa's website doesn't even contain the rosters of their reserve teams. Made Regional ODP pool in 2001.

MF Rodrigo Lopez (5/10/87 or 10/10/87; 5-7 135)- Listed in the newly updated USSF U-18 pool as playing for CD Chivas. There is a Rodrigo Lopez Alvarez listed on Chivas website with a slightly different birthdate. Lopez played for So Cal United on the National Championship team with Diego Barrera (Colombian born MF at LMU that did well at '86 ODP event in Jan) and Greg Folk (UCLA). He previosuly played for FC Santa Barbara where he was a Regional ODP pool player in '02.

    17.- RODRIGO LOPEZ ALVAREZ 10/10/87

Lopez, Rodrigo M 5'7" 135 05/10/87 Santa Barbara, Calif. CD Chivas

Octavio Pino, who is listed by Dave in his first post, is listed on the 2005 Clausura roster for Argentine club Almagro.

    http://www.portalfutebol.net/ligasi...asp?id=330&comp=argentina&epoca=Clausura 2005

A midfielder born June 4 (or April 6) 1985, Pino was called into a US U20 camp last year and played in three games, starting two – none of them against other U20 teams – and got one assist.

davide, when you say unknown, I assume you mean we don't know which club, specifically, they've signed with not that they you haven't heard of the team with which they've signed. Correct?
