Yeah, this is the new normal. I know there are scouts going to youth club team matches in the big cities from Boston to DC now. They used to just concentrate at big tournaments. That is becoming to late now. It‘s a great sign.
Interesting to see US-born, England-raised winger Vaughn Covil with Hull City's first team. He is U20-eligible and has been with the US U16s and England U15s before. Thanks to @eastdeflection for the spot. https://t.co/l1IcMB7rjO— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) July 10, 2022 CB Quembol Guadalupe will reportedly leave Orlando City to join the first team of Universidad Tecnica de Cajamarca in Peru. His background seems similar to Andres Perea's -- born in the US, raised in South America, returned to the US at Orlando City.https://t.co/5aNUjtoEs4— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) July 10, 2022
And in the greater scheme of life he'll be making 100-400K? pretty d*^& good money for any age person. He does that for 5-10 years and has a good nest egg if he doesn't blow it. Can take that and coach or do something completely different. Any kid looking at being a pro soccer player should be seeing a decent floor and fantastic ceiling on pay.
Rangers are eyeing a move for Malik Tillman. The player is understood to be open to the prospect of getting more game time in the Scottish Premiership. Rangers are looking to land Tillman on a permanent deal [@ScotMailSport] pic.twitter.com/SoQxcqQUCj— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) July 11, 2022
No argument here. I just don‘t think getting to Europe and being in the shop window is all it‘s cracked up to be anymore. That‘s all. That time IMO is already past.
It seems to me that a few things are happening at the same time -- if you just want to go to Europe, for whatever reason, your opportunities now are better than they were a few years ago, especially if you have some "real" MLS experience; if you don't particularly, you don't have to to have a shot to make some money and get into the MNT; and if you don't feel strongly either way, and just kind of want to maximize your opportunity and let the chips fall where they may, you can do that too. If you think you have a chance to like jump into the very top level of the game by like, say, age 20, it seems like you need to manage things very carefully and have almost everything break your way, but for everyone else, it's not so intense.
I grew up with a two kids that both played MLS and retired from soccer in the last 5 years. The first was a Top 10 SuperDraft pick, played 8 years in MLS. He was only a starter for one of those seasons, but was the 12-14th man the other years when he wasn't hurt. He made a total of ~$400K. The other was a Top 5 SuperDraft pick, played 9 years and was a starter for basically his entire career until it was cut short by injuries. Believe he was even an All-Star in one season and he made between $1.5-2 Million in his career. Now players have a chance to actually build up a nest egg, although to be fair, I am not sure how much of an MLS career the first player would have had in this version of MLS. The second player though would likely still be in the league now if he could play, but would be the aging vet.
Chelsea have reached verbal agreement with Chicago Fire for Gabriel Slonina, after direct talks between Todd Boehly and MLS club. 10m deal plus add-ons, he'd stay at Chicago on loan. 🔵🇺🇸 #CFC Chelsea are expected to submit official bid this week in order to get the deal done. pic.twitter.com/965dJHuI6w— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 11, 2022
A pretty noisy assist for Johnny, but good for him. https://t.co/pzZW1RvrbE— Daniel (@DanielSmith1022) July 12, 2022
For the second consecutive season the US finished with the most U21 Top 5 League playing time for nations without their own top domestic league. Meaning the most minutes other than France, Spain, England, Germany, Italy. Thanks to @NatFan9 for calculating.— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) July 11, 2022 Last year the US almost caught up to 5th place Italy who have Serie A. This year the US was a distant 6th due to the '00s aging out and Reyna & Hoppe not playing much.Still, good to see the US in the Top 6 again and no reason to think the tradition won't continue next season.— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) July 11, 2022
Oops! Not so fast Gaga. As of last night there was nothing yet agreed for Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gaga Slonina, according to a source with direct knowledge of the talks. Discussions ongoing with Chelsea. Interest has always been strong in the #USMNT prospect. pic.twitter.com/XFNjvJB7NI— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) July 12, 2022
I mean obviously something isn't official until it's official, such that if it's not official, it isn't official? The exception, I'd argue, is in cases where something is official.
🚨 Real Madrid are keeping a very close eye on USMNT international Gio Reyna and how he’s going to progress with Dortmund.. a player who they see with good potential and could go after in the coming years 👀Via 90mins pic.twitter.com/kR6AjGtSN1— Takes 🇺🇸 (@USMNTTAKES) July 12, 2022
If you're in the business of high end pro soccer and you know what you're doing talent eval wise, you are watching Gio closely and have been.
It’s not clear there are other bidders though when it comes to Slonina. I don’t think it’s personal terms he’s agreed upon. The way I read it Chelsea and Chicago have agreed on the amount, but Chelsea has yet to submit the formal written offer.

News Malik Tillman: He is on verge to leave Bayern on a 1-year-loan. There are talks with clubs from England at this stage mainly. Clubs from the Premier League are in a good position to get the 20 y/o striker. @SkySportDE 🇺🇸— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) July 14, 2022
Malik Tillman is currently undergoing a medical at Rangers. He will join the Scottish side on loan with option to buy. Bayern have secured a buy-back clause [@kicker]— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) July 15, 2022
I don't think he's that good, but he only played 83 minutes (and had an assist in those minutes). He should've been give more opportunity IMO. The Bassett at Feyenoord experiment looks to be over. I believe the Rapids had to ok the loan move to Fortuna Sittard.Just didn't impress Arne Slot enough to work his way into the team.Fortuna avoided relegation by 1 point last season. https://t.co/k0GUfIS9KX— Daniel (@DanielSmith1022) July 15, 2022
Contrary to previous reports the holdup in the deal was personal terms. According to Gaga's agent personal terms are agreed and Chelsea will table the bid. Gabriel Slonina’s agent Jaime Garcia has informed Chicago Fire that they reached an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea. 🚨🔵 #CFCCFC will submit official bid and send paperworks, after verbal agreement with Chicago: 10m plus add-ons.Slonina will stay at Chicago on loan. pic.twitter.com/Ky66pzXjpa— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 15, 2022
