So fellas, who would you have as your Chelsea team of the decade? No limitations besides having an 11 player starting lineup and a realistic team selection, have at it.
It's pretty easy really --------------Cech-------------- A Cole---Terry---Desailly---Ferreira Robben---Lampard---Maka---Duff --------Drogba---Zola-------- Bench: Cudicini Guddy JFH Le Saux Bridge
But then I have two LB's on the bench and no extra mid (unless you count Guddy)... Bench: Cudicini Guddy JFH Le Saux Bridge
well Eddie tbh I dont think its that easy suprised to see that Gallas didnt make your team. Kunt yes- but a very good player. Ferreira has been decent but I would lean towards Albert Ferrer at RB No nod for Joe Cole is also interesting as well
I considered Gallas...but the way he left, he doesn't deserve it. I was torn between Ferrer and Ferreira as well. I want with Paolo since he was here for more of the last decade than the Spaniard. Plus Albert really wasn't as effective from around 2001-ish on where as Paolo's been top notch from the get. Same with Joey. I wanted to put him in but at who's expense? Maka? Duff? Robben? Maybe from Duff or Robben but it's a matter of opinion I guess. Like most of us, I am pretty 2005 biased! I would remove Graeme from my bench and put in Joey Cole in hindsight now.
you certianly have a tough team to argue against I wonder how it would look in WC format with 23 players- 3 of those being GKs
either way its a great idea and a good thread considering the timing why not both? the starting XI certianly presents more challenges per eddies post the World Cup XI is easier as it allow more selection but that team could look very nasty indeed
you are all thinking it so I might as well say it anyone want to list their WORST Chelsea team of the Decade- I wonder how many times Deco gets selected?
Best XI: --------Cech-------- PF--Gallas--Terry--A. Cole Duff--Maka--Lamps--Robben ------Zola----Drogba--- Worst XI: ---------------Ambrosio--------- Boularhoz--Ben Haim---Bogarde-----Del Horno --------Maniche---Jokanovic---Deco-------- Gronkjaer---Shevchenko---Malouda
But if we're going to do an All-Worst side, there has to be a rule of sorts on years or matches played. Some guys came and went so fast in the early 2000's that there time wasn't worthy enough of such a list!
I think you're doing a disservice to Del Horno. He was pretty good but because Messi owned him in the CL match at the Nou Camp, people forget that. Ambrosio deserves a break too. He was between the sticks in one of my most favorite Chelsea matches ever. The CL QF at Highbury! Oh Wayne Bridge! Your team made me realize I had the LB and RB's flipped on my squad.
Slavisa Jokanovic Chris Sutton (just about sneaks in) The worst XI is equally hard. We've had some dross.
All-Worst ------------Bosnich------------ Panucci---Boulahrouz---Bogarde---Ben-Haim Ambrosetti---De Lucas---Morris---Jokanovic --------Sheva---Kezman-------- Panucci is an automatic in this side. One season with the club and what a bad memory it was.
Bosnich Panucci Ben Haim Bhoula Bogarde Ambrosetti Deco Jokanovic De Lucas Sheva Sutton Something like that. I liked Veron but for his price, and reputation, he was poor. Similar to Sheva. Actually scrap that, Deco can go in.
funny enough I saw him score his only goal for us vs St. Gallen we were dreadful that night and the return leg cost us DiMatteo
damn right funny but the Worst team debate probably sparks more interest and debate than the best team
Sutton was terrible but he was more of a late 90's Chelsea player. He left after the 2000 or 2001 season I believe.
Aye, he was only here for the one season 99/00 so a little cheeky to include him. Was very poor though.
------------------Cech-------------------- Petrescuaulo---Gallas---JT----------A Cole ------------------Maka-------------------- --------Essien---------------------Duff---- ------------------Lampard----------------- ---------------Zola------------------------ ----------------------Drogba-------------- Subs: Cudicini Le Saux Desailly Wise Di Matteo JFH Eidur Super Dan technically counts. If not, Paulo gets the nod. Bosingwa and Ivanovic tried their best too.
