Played for Envigado. Has just turned eighteen. Highly talented winger and has been signed by Watford on turning eighteen and will be sent to Udinese on loan. I know many of you will be a bit upset by this as all South American clubs lose out in terms of transfer fees gained by top talents. The fee is said to be £3M with a sell on clause. Rather skinny at present but could become a complement to Diaz in time. Still to win a cap with the national side though. https://vimeo.com/user16582451
Yeah he have been really good...the matches i watched.... envigado have one of the the youth team in the country they have promoted: james rodriguez, guarin, matehus uribe, juan fernando quintero dorlan pabon, mao molina
Yep, he's kind of bogarted the 'Promising Colombian players' thread since his debut! Hoping, sincerely, he delivers on his promise.
I thought he was going to Udinese... But I guess not.
And Quintero, and James, and Falcao, and Rodallega...and I even saw a scary comparison that the only younger debut in the NT...Johnnier Montaño... You can never tell at this stage, but nothing wrong with hope. Expect the worst, hope for the best.
I heard on Caracol a quick mention how his contract stipulates that he will play Copa Libertadores with either Tolima or Cali?
I haven't read it as mandatory but more that they want him to get more experience so he can qualify for a work permit in England - I had shared a thread on it a few posts up.
Great article on the process for Yaser from local Watford media. NEW: Watford making plans for "outstanding" Yaser Asprilla as they consider permit optionshttps://t.co/ofadBuB1Dr#WatfordFC— Ryan Gray (@RyanJGray89) January 18, 2022
sending him to Udinese won't help them. Why would they play a 18 year old. I know they technically own him as same owners as the EPL club but he just going to lose 6 months. Get called to the 4 WCQ games left + friendlies + keep killing it with his current club. Have a whole summer to get use to his new club. Hopefully he smart enough to try to start learning English now
Oh... Simmer down now young man... "Yo por mis características y capacidades seré mejor que @TinoasprillaH " Yaser Asprilla. pic.twitter.com/oL1V4qNsyr— Julián Céspedes (@JulianMCespedes) January 21, 2022
Here is the video of the press conference. Really, he's just a boy. I hope he has serious people around him and is well advised. Will need to keep his feet on the ground and focus on sharpening his game. ➕"No pensaba que después del partido contra Honduras me iban a llamar tan rápido. Johnnier He was a great player here in Peru, on the other hand, we all thought Pino would be the second coming of Montaño, not even close.
This is the first time someone has lamented a player NOT becoming Johnnier... People raise Marlos as cautionary tale but Montaño is the best one. I remember watching him play for Parma in Seria A as 16 and 17 years old. Humiliating Argentina in the Copa America on the day Palermo pooped himself... And then never coming close to fulfilling his potential. The hope for me is that Yaser keep playing with the joy and energy that he does. How he is coached will be so important.
Johnnier was a good player here, but obviously a failed prodigy if he's made his career in Peru after what he was touted to become. Pino on the other hand did fail here. He looked like he would do well at one point but was utterly useless in the end.
This kid is going to probably have the chance of a lifetime with JuanFer and Muriel being out. I hope he steps up his game and the occasion is not too big for him. Even if it is just simply dis-balancing Peru's defense with his speed and crazy dribbling opening up things for other players on a good counter.
He should not be playing in such tense games at all. He's 18 very raw and played as a sub in one exhibition vs Honduras. He can be a talent and its great to bring him in, but its not the type of environment you should be putting a kid in without having more experience on this type of stage. Valoyes should be first up if we need that profile, even the way Rueda threw him in in his first minutes was harsh but he's older and has a lot more experience in high pressure games.
I agree that Valoyes should be first up. But there are 5 subs and it all depends on the context and the flow of the game. Marlos for instance was brought in at a young age and helped us win the Bolivia game just with his speed and the way he could go down the wings. Also looked okay in the next match. So you just never know.
Marlos had already played in major Libertadores matches though. In principle, I'd agree with the point on just letting the kid observe and learn this call up but with Quintero out, if anything goes wrong with James he is next man up at the position. Valoyes should get more chances at RW but he is not an 8 or a 10.
True. But I can see scenarios in which he can provide a spark that no other kids on the roster can provide. It is not ideal to throw him in but who knows. If we are up 3-1 or something like that in the 70th minute why not??? It all depends on what is going on.
