Would the excuse "civic duty" work? But really, I'd definitely half-watch live and then rewatch later; I don't think you'll avoid spoilers.
This is the day when I'm happy to be self-employed. Therefore, the boss had no problem giving me an afternoon off. It makes up for all the times being self-employed is a pain in the ass...
Don't risk it. There will be no way to avoid spoilers of a semi win. Especially with the politics bleedover from the whole Trump hissy-fit.
I was playing solitaire waiting for my SO to get back from the gym to watch the Italy- Australia DVR-- and an ad popped up which started "Just like Italy showed us this morning, the age of upsets is not yet over..." And here I thought I was doing the safest imaginable thing...
A sign of how soccer has changed in America: 35 years ago, I had no trouble at all avoiding spoilers for soccer games I planned to watch when I got home from work, and I was working in the sports department of a newspaper. Today, you can't avoid them if you're in a rowboat in the middle of a lake.
It's a lot easier if you are not tethered to your cell phone. I don't remember the last game I had to miss and record while I was somewhere else, but I just left my cell phone on the shelf when I did so. Made sure I did not eat that day in a restaurant that had a TV. Made sure I did not turn the radio on, on the way home. Didn't check the landline answer machine when I got home. And I had made especially sure that I switched the game channel that I was recording, to another channel, so that I wouldn't be spoiled when I turned the TV on to play my recording. It worked.
When ever i think of US v. England i see this play where jill scott dished one of the most blatent dangerous cleats up fouls I have ever seen. If I recall, there was no call on it. Imagine if this happened with VR.

my local American Outlaws chapter insists on viewing the game at a 21+ bar. So hence, with teens at bay, where would it be better; Buffalo Wild Wings or Twin Peaks?
That sucks. The bars here admit all ages up until 9PM but I'm also in California. You honestly can't go wrong with Buffalo Wild Wings, especially if you have teens. The wings should fill them up.
I am on a plane and having trouble logging onto a site that will broadcast the game (I'm flying United, which has worse wi-fi than the planes on which the Flintstones flew). Hopefully all of you can provide running commentary as play happens so I can follow!
I had no idea, but this is cool: One of the cooler stories in soccer (IMO) is that #USPNT forward @SJahnIX has been the head security detail for the @USWNT during their World Cup and will fly directly from France to join his teammates! pic.twitter.com/YsGXsVvN9c— Chris Ahrens, PLY (@chrisahrens) July 2, 2019
All well and good, but it’s the people that are the weakest link. We once had a receptionist walk through our office space proclaiming, “I can’t believe we won!” They wouldn’t let me fire her.
I’m resigned to this outcome. Luckily, I’m on a conference call for most of the game. Best case scenario, really. No one ever ignores those.
Lineup: Naeher; O'Hara, Sauerbrunn, Dahlkemper, Dunn; Lavelle, Ertz, Horan; Heath, Morgan, Press. EDIT to add: Ellis listens to me! Look:
I like that. Maybe Press' speed can keep Bronze at home more. And bringing the "magical" / "clutch" players (Rapinoe and Lloyd) off the bench isn't a bad look either.
My first thought is that bringing Horan in, they were worried about pace on the left side of midfield which necessitates Press instead of Rapinoe. Gutsy move to bench your brace scoring midfielder from the Quarters and might be a fire-able offense if they lose this game. I do think Press' pace is enough to keep Bronze deeper, but Press doesn't produce in big games anywhere near Rapinoe. I don't like benching her unless she is having a tough time recovering from the last match, which is pretty doubtful given her fitness.
