The WPS tweet also says the league is considering having/allowing players to tweet during matches...

    Thoughts?

That's a big no thank you from me. Leave the twittering(next word to make the dictionary) to a staff member. If a player is on the bench it's normally because they aren't good enough to break the top 11(unless they are injured of course).

If that is the case they should be watching the play, learning how to be a better player by listening to the coaches or talking with players about what they see/would do, etc.

All professional soccer playing twitterers need not apply during a game! :p

I agree w/ you 100% StatsGuy. The wps facebook page asked for feedback on the players tweeting during games. The people that responded (not that many) all pretty much said "no" so I hope the league listens and doesn't do it. Completely unprofessional.

eta: I think I might go to the redstars forum and let Peter Wilt know what I think about this idea.

I agree as well, it is a very stupid idea. Kind of like driving and texting.

I also concur. I can understand having a staffer do a quick interview with a player or coach before and after the halftime break and posting it for those who are following on twitter but the players are being paid to do a job while the game is ongoing whether they are on the bench or on the pitch.

Sidenote: It has always bothered me when tv announcers interview a MLB manager while their team is playing. They are supposed to be paying attention to the field sending in signs, not BSing with the announcers.

BAD idea. The only way I would think this is OK if it is a player that is not suiting up for the game, or a player that has already come off. I don't want subs on the bench playing with their blackberries when they should be focused on the game.

Horrible idea. As bad as the skorts.

Worse than skorts since it takes away for the game. The skorts are only annoying before and after.

If they must tweet during games, I wouldn't mind seeing comments from Joe Cummings during the game or at half..... players and coaches should be focusing on their jobs til the final whistle... but then I don't like the ingame or halftime TV interviews coaches and players have to do in any sport.
