As for U2, the closest they came to selling out wasn't Zooropa, but Rattle and Hum (which wasn't all that bad as a CD, actually - All I want is you, God II, Desire, etc.). Fortunately, U2 stepped back from the precipice, realized their mistake and put out Achtung Baby.
