Before Aston Villa, when was the last time a club that wasn't newly promoted did that poorly in the Premier League or First Division before that? The only club I've seen get fewer Premier League points than Aston Villa in 2015-2016 was when newly promoted Derby County got 11 points.

Stoke, 84/85. They got just 17 points from 42 games, the equivalent of 15.3 points over 38 games.

It was their 6th consecutive season at that level after being promoted in 1979.
