Oof that's a terrible decision. Keep the system as is. No need to take away spots from the better teams in the league.
FO is paying the staff of the U and U2 during their suspended seasons. https://www.inquirer.com/soccer/coron1avirus-covid-19-mls-philadelphia-union-employee-assistance-fund-subaru-park-20200327.html?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar
Got the invite to join the Zoom meeting with Tim McDermott today and logged on since I'm off at that time. Tim logged on late and then his power went out so he was dropped. Prior to losing him the meeting was hosted by the PA announcer who asked him crap about his time as a kicker at Cornell. They did briefly discuss the MLS position of trying to finish the season in full but then more stupid minutia until he dropped. Visit then switched to interview of one of the marketing guys who didn't have much to say either. I get that the dropping of Tim was a weather related event and outside the control of the Union but scheduling any part of the event to consist of asking "pancakes or waffles", "book or movie?" when we are starved for anything team related is just so Union. All credit to the public address guy for going with the flow and finding something to talk about after losing Tim but who thought he should be the interviewer? Can we get Tannenwald or a PSP reporter to be involved? They asked for questions to be submitted beforehand, couldn't they have asked those? It was like watching a Hackworth era Union team play. I had to leave before the end to make sure I didn't start yelling and disrupt the house.
Hmmmmm.... Kevin Durant buys ownership stake in Union, report says https://t.co/0vpfyalc9X via @phillyinquirer pic.twitter.com/XVmaJfbGf1— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) June 4, 2020
Found a box with the Bimbo and Union labels on it on my front porch this AM... Inside was a note: Greetings season ticket holders, It's been a tough several months for Philadelphia. Yada, yada, yada to make sure you're properly repping the Club yada, yada, yada enclosed a few gifts... mini banner with a Bimbo and Union logos (Bimbo>Union) that also has "Founding Member" printed on the end, a couple of bags of snacks, travel coffee mug with the Bimbo>Union logos, adjustable mask, bib looking towel that would be good for when you feed an infant and... an authentic 2020 "Forever Faithful" jersey (with the $149.99 price tag). Pretty nice surprise to go along with the win from Saturday night. Not sure if this was a random thing and I was one of the lucky ones or if similar packs with other goodies went out to season ticket holders or other fans. Anyone else?
I got one as well but with a different kit. It was a bit emotional not so much for the stuff but it was just a reminder how much about how we get thru the days during this has become normal. The gesture kinda pulled me out of it for a moment. I already forgave the dollar dog night fiasco so I am ok with changing this thread title to "Most Okayest run FO in the league?" if you guys are.
I moved to Philly in 2011. Just late enough to miss out on all the "Founding Member" goodies. So I'm still angry about the cold dollar dogs, Rais M'Bohli, and so forth and so on. I wonder if this is a "forever" thing. Maybe some day in the year 2052 they'll give out something for the "founding memebers." I'll be a 40 year season ticket member. And I'll probably still be on here whining about not getting some random shirt because I didn't move here a few years earlier. Being able to complain about it gives me something to look forward to in my retirement years.
Maybe they'll make a batch of t-shirts for the folks like us who weren't around in 2010: "Just missed the boat! Season ticket member since 2012"
I don't know who or how they determined who got something but nothing mentioned founding members this time and they usually do when its based on that. Hopefully they see this and if they are basing it on that they change cause non founding members matter too.
I've been wondering about people like me (actually, I may be the only one in this category), who was involved with many Sons of Ben events prior to having a team, and then lost contact with everyone before the first match was ever played (thanks to moving away to grad school) and haven't ever attended a match in the River End to this day.
