if the mesh was there, the red dc united jersey would be a really sweet. a splash of white and perfecto. but the mesh in the front really doesn't help it at all...
No need to sell out to the corporations like the rest of the world. I think allowing corporations to buy the naming rights of stadiums is bad enough in this country.
Say, that's a great look that DC is throwing down, with the red shirts and the black shorts, but I think I've seen it somewhere before. I just can't place where. Oh yeah, I know where...
I like the new LA uni's. The sash is unique in MLS. They are second best after DC. Rule for expansion - no new teams are allowed to have red. Too many teams in MLS with red and now with Chivas Norte there will be yet another team with red.
Probably not as much as some people would think. I'll put it to you this way: Radio Shack is paying some serious coin to MLS. What they get for that money is the naming rights for the MLS telecasts on ABC and ESPN2 ("Radio Shack Soccer Saturday"), signboards at every single game, ads during all MLS broadcasts, and a few other things that I can't think of off the top of my head. Oh yeah, they also get their logo put on the back of the Burn's uniforms. Now, ask yourselves: Would Radio Shack pay substantially more to get their logo put on the front? Not really. They might pay a few more bucks, but the jersey sponsorship only constitutes a small part of the sponsorship package that they're getting from MLS. It's a bit like buying a car. Yeah, you'll pay a couple of hundred bucks on a $20,000 car to upgrade the stereo, but that's about it. And given that it wouldn't represent a financial windfall for the league, I applaud them for not putting the sponsors on the front. In fact, I would like it very much if MLS took a page from Chivas' book or Barcelona's book and had absolutely no sponsors' logos on their shirts.
FYI... IIRC, the triangle shape badge (also seen with the Sharks logo) represents the three major cities in the Bay Area (S.F. and Oakland being the others). Guy
Thanks for the info, ggayle. Makes me appreciate the logo a whole lot more now that I understand it. The color scheme makes sense too. I like it.
It was also explained that the sun rays represent San Jose's Aztec heritage (although that could probably be said of just about any place in California).       Also, clearer images of the logo show a seismographic line running through the word "Earthquakes". -G
