🤔 Over the line? You decide. pic.twitter.com/tG24Xil8Md— Partick Thistle FC (@PartickThistle) September 1, 2018 Simply unbelievable. How on earth could this happen? What did the four officials think the players were celebrating? A throw in? Just crazy.
This is just speculation but based on his body language, it looks like the center may be going to mark the goal but is apprehensive because of his assistant was continuing to sidestep as if the ball is in play. The only reason I can think of that the AR didn't see the ball cross the line is that at the time the ball entered, the AR was around 6-7 yards up from the goal line and some sort of optical illusion based on his angle may have made it look like the ball never entered; by the time he sidestepped back to the goal line the ball had already come out of the goal and the defender was making his 'clearance.' Take that with a massive grain of salt though, I'm just trying to find the lesson to be learned from this horrid error.
You can tell the AR thought it wasn't in because he signaled for a throw-in after the "clearance" from the defender that was actually him kicking the ball away in frustration. I've been fooled by some optical illusions as an AR, but thankfully I figured out what everyone else knew by their reactions before I did something stupid.
I would understand bad positioning allowing confusion if the ball landed just past the line, but that hit the back of the net.
So true- I don’t know who else feels this way but no matter how well positioned you re or how well you’re paying attention sometimes stuff happens when you’re just like “what just happened?” I had a friend once who wrongly awarded a goal on a ball that was in the side netting because the AR thought it was in the goal and just as he was looking at the AR he didn’t see the gk having to go outside the goal to retrieve the ball. This case is hard to understand as both CR and AR should have has a pretty good look at the whole thing.
Even at my level I've learned that when the entire field is reacting in a way that signals a certain event has happened, 99% of the time it's best to go with that. For the life of me I can't understand why in the world they would NOT give a goal here.
Yeah, but that's only to be expected, because you're the worst referee ever. Oh wait, no, that's me. Never mind.
AR1 pointed for a throw for the offensive team. That's eventually what happened (or was going to happen) at the end of the clip.
They told me the same thing last week. I guess I'm off the hook as "worst" now - thanks for your support.
If a player tries to tell me that my decision was "the worst decision ever," I usually respond, "the WORST decision EVER? You haven't been playing very long, have you?"
I used to reply to the "you're the worst ref I've ever seen" comment with something along the lines of "you haven't watched many games", but I've softened a bit and now respond "then I'm jealous that you have such an abundance of good refs where you're from that I can be the worst".
A fellow ref had two comeback lines when told he was the worst. I don't know if he ever used either of them. "You need to get out more." "Oh, I can be much worse than this."
Ha, I've used that. I read it here first. Another I'm pretty sure I read here but haven't used: "You're the worst referee I've ever seen!" "What a coincidence!" And with regard to the original post, yes, that uniform is dreadful. An awful choice.
"I'm the worst referee ever? Wow, 7 billion people on the planet, and I'm the worst at something. That's an accomplishment!"
