Since some matches will be broadcast in 3D has anyone heard or read about World Cup matches showing in U.S. theaters?
The Crocketteers, San Antonio's soccer supporters group, has made an agreement with Alamo Drafthouse Theaters to show all USA games on their HD screens. The event will be free to all. Alamo Drafthouse serves over 20 draft beers and has a in-theater dining experience. If the USA games go well in attendance then semi final and final games will be added.
announcements will be made shortly about some big venues showing the games in 3-D. that's all i can say for now.
Update: We have "sold out the first theater at the Drafthouse. In just 6 days we "sold out" over 130 seats. We will now move to a larger theater inside the Drafthouse.
I heard area movie theaters used to be packed in the 60's and 70's for the World Cup. Will 3D technology bring the crowds back to movie theaters? (My initial reaction is not likely)
There are issues with the company that had the rights to 3-D Theater broadcasts. http://www.mediamughals.com/News/1/..._for_2010_FIFA_Games'_theatrical_telecast.htm
wow Aruna Media hoping to reverse FIFA's decision for 2010 FIFA Games' theatrical telecast uh oh - it's a good thing I don't care. January 7th is not the day you want to be cancelling World Cup TV agreements.
In my town, they're showing games(not 3D), for $10/person, with a popcorn buffet. Not worth it. Rather go to a sports bar or watch with friends
has any further info been released? there was this press release last week... http://hollywoodinhidef.com/2010/06/3d-world-cup-in-theaters-too/
I wonder how much money was wasted to do these games in 3d, how sad no one can even watch them. US theaters even had NBA Allstar Weekend in 3d, something like World Cup games would be huge. Terrible
Here is some of coverage of our game in the Alamo Drafthouse Theater. Nearly every television station and every newspaper in San Antonio was there to cover the event. The demand for tickets was so high that a second theater was open on Friday at 5 pm and was sold out in less than three hours. http://www.foxsanantonio.com/newsroom/top_stories/videos/vid_2470.shtml http://www.mysanantonio.com/slideshows/World_Cup_Local_fans_watch_England_vs_USA.html?c=n#1
Still hope? http://broadcastengineering.com/news/fifa-plans-500-cinema-3-d-experiences-20100618/index.html
Well, the final will be in 3d in some theatres, but the list is pretty disappointing. I'm in a major market and don't have anywhere close, not even a few states over http://cinedigm.com/sports3d/
