i thought the difference was Ghana has finishers up top, the US has players who can hopefully hold until our midfield can get there..

AMAZING CORNER KICK GOAL BY BRAZIL! uber nice header

and the flood gates open, Brazil counter and go up 2

Germany v Argentina and Brazil v Netherlands in the quarterfinals. Thank goodness the winners of these two games won't meet in the semis.

Losing on penaly kicks sucks, and you will never convince me otherwise.

Of course it does, I think I'm just inured to the regular kind of losing, since the Wiz are doing soooo much of it.

But losing a knockout game in the World Cup on penalties is the outcome of a bad, bad system.

Are you one of those who wants them to play until they all pass out and die? ;)

That or have replays and then not have the energy or the ability to compete in the next game?

They used to have endless replays in the FA Cup ... was no good. Penalties suck, but what do you do instead? You have to respect the fact that players don't have endless banks of energy and that a tournament like the World Cup has little or no wiggle room in the schedule.

I'd be inclined to go to an NHL-style system, where the number of players on the field is reduced as time goes by. That's a lot more like soccer than this "Hope the shooter doesn't screw up" PK system.

I'd like to see an additional sub given to each time for extra time.

Interesting... But only if the final sub is made in an effort to win the game in regulation - no time-wasting subs in stoppage time should be rewarded..

I seem to remember this discussion from before with Shook any time a big game ended in PK shootouts and I always bring up the same points James has and I still stand by those.

when did brazil become a team full of whining, complaining bitches? i guess it doesn't come out much when you're always winning. arjen robben isn't any better with his diving and feigning injuries. he looks like he's 50 years old too... doesn't PLAY like it, just looks like it.

if the result holds, i'll be pleased to see brazil out.

Best result of the whole tournament. Netherlands was my pre tournament favorites. Plus after the Brazil - Ivory Coast game, the whiny brazilians went into my "someone must knock them out at any cost" folder. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of whiny bitches.

Anybody want to bet how soon the guy who had the own goal and a red card for Brazil gets shot after returning home without the trophy? Yikes....he better get a police escort or go into permanent hiding. Damn, that's our half of the bracket too. Damn!

The Dutch are a good side, just because Brazil is out doesn't mean we had an easier path to the finals. I didn't rate Brazil as high as in other tournaments, in fact I had them going out to the Dutch in this spot.

Being from south america, I really wish people would stop making comments like this one. I don't know if you are joking or not but that incident happened fifteen years ago, in the most violent city of the the most violent country on earth.

we have progressed and moved forward leaps and bounds. yes, we are not the safest place on earth, but neither is the united states....

Sorry.....didn't mean to make it sound like a joke. I would hope nothing happens to him, but two big gaffes like that in a knockout game would increase fans' hostility towards him, I would think. Hopefully people don't take the game this seriously, but you never know. There are crazy people everywhere. Hopefully he will take extra caution.

I didn't see it as that harsh of a comment. I thought the same thing as CJ. It had nothing to do with the country. Since '94, anytime a player scores an own goal, that thought is going to pop into people's minds. No matter what country the player is from.

That could turn out to be the best red card ever if Uruguay advance...
