Hmmm...no. Mostly stupid young punk who works in a restaurant for a living type of wild times. Things - and people - that I've worked for years to get Beth to forget lol. Anyway...let's stick with the other Cass County rumors.
The reason they are going with turf I was told is that because Friday nights: Ray-Pec Football (Class 5A State Champs 06, 05, 04) Saturday Night: Wizards Other nights: (usually Tues + Thurs) Ray-Pec Soccer Nightmare for painting lines (We used to have to paint lines on 7 practice fields at MU.) Pain in the butt just for practice I hate to see what it will be like here. Who knows about JV and Freshmen Teams. Joe in RP
Wasn't that a case of the rubber bits clumping? I notice that on some field turf surfaces especially as they get older. My brother played at Cardinal Stadium before the Fire started playing there, and he did not care for the surface either.
I don't think so. I think it's partly a case of getting what you pay for (SafePlay is a much cheaper product than FieldTurf II). The wavyness of the carpet also told me that there was way too much slack in the way it was rolled out. Lumpiness or not, it was a very uneven surface.
Field Turf is not inherently a bad surface. It's better than playing on a chewed up, worn out, dormant grass field. Gordo has played on the field at SM South, Rockhurst HS, and Rockhurst U and said it wasn't bad, especially Rockhurst U. The biggest downside is that it get very hot. You need to water it to get the temperature down.
The heat thing is a problem. But the better turfs are better at dissipating the heat. Additionally, most of the turf companies now offer a beige rubber fill instead of the more common black rubber fill. I remember my feet and ankles being on fire after just standing on the SafePlay at Villanova back in July, 2002 for one hour. The players had their feet in ice buckets at halftime. High end turf products aren't nearly that bad, and they've definitely been working on the problem. That said, the best turf still has far more heat retention problems than grass fields, and a field in Kansas City can pick up a lot of light energy during the middle of the summer.
exactly. i dread playing at Blue Springs because of that. they have a track runnning around the feild as well. the sweat set in on my way walking to the bench to set my stuff down. But i am derfinantly going to where ever we go. No doubt about it.
Yeah I remember playing on that and other field truf in college and when you'd literally feel your feet and ankles burning up in your shoes from that. Not a fun experience.
To avoid the embarrassment of players burning up on this stuff, we should go on hiatus for 2 years. *don't flame me, it's a joke, see MLS N&A*
Everybody quoted the bad stuff I wrote. The new high-end turfs and turf fills abate most, but not all, of the heat problems.
Yeah Jade1MLS is back with her Hmong prophecy on how we were this close to going to Philly (failing to realize it was only in her and two other posters minds) Anyway, really not looking forward to Ray-Pec in the middle of July with the bleacher seats and reflective turf. Question, if my ass continues to expand at a rate greater than that of a planned bleacher seat do they have provisions to wedge small children in between the "bigger boned" guests or do I need to get two tickets; one for each cheek? If they try to stuff it anything like KU Basketball does then no thanks. At least there's some climate control there, I don't want to be swapping thigh sweat with the lady sitting next to me or her stinky kid who hasn't bathed yet this week.
I know most of the new stuff helps to control the heat problems, I was just relating to your experience of the problems with some types of turf to my own experience.
Rumor: I work with a guy who is very involved in the Ray-Pec school district. He said that two nights ago there was a vote (school board I assume) and it was approved to allow the Wizards to play there. Not sure where this ties in, if this means it's 100% done, or if it means anything at all. Just what I heard, from what I would think is a credible source.
The school board website shows: 01/29/2007, Closed meeting, 6pm Recess to closed session for: Litigation Real Estate
The lack of denials by any in the know around here seem to me to point to Ray-Pec being our temporary home.
forget about Ray-Pec, wherever that is. I have it on good authority that the Wizards are negotiating with Sam Pierron for use of his back yard. He'll allow beer and bring-your-own peanuts.
I don't know about the beer. I'm guessing they could get a nice bidding war between Boulevard and Free State over exclusive concession control.
