Pops injury in the warm up cost Germany big time, the players never really recovered from that major set back.
The German media seem to be taking defeat well 🙂“Title dream shattered after a scandalous scene.Clear handball penalty refused.Wembley fraud again” pic.twitter.com/IgjZ1PJzZW— Swiss Ramble (@SwissRamble) July 31, 2022
England can only win trophies in England. even Euro 2020, almost All England matches including final was in England.
So will all host nations participate - Scotland, Wales, England, N. Ireland, and Ireland? (Kidding - probably just the funding FAs.).
not sure, I don't think FIFA has made it clear if USA-Canada-Mexico will all 3/3 qualify for World Cup in 2026 or not. its unknown and they haven't won bidding yet, they face Turkey as only contender. but yes, Ireland X2, Scotland, Wales, England are hosts in this bid.
not to rain on englands parade but here's a quick summary of Englands football history: World Cup: the only time they ever won it was as hosts in 1966. which is also the only time they ever made the final European Championship: the only time they ever made the final was in 2020 when they played 6 of their 7 games at wembley. Womens Football: the only title they ever won was euro 2022 as hosts apart from when they've hosted tornaments what have they actually ever achieved?
The not called hand play for sure is another Wembley moment. I'm okay with it, if England's women team suffer from it like the men's team do.
Euro 2020 wasn't played in England exclusively, it was played in numerous countries. As one of the host nations England got 'home' group games along with a number of other countries including Germany. Germany could've had the semi-final and final but they withdrew their offer leaving England as the sole bidder. In the case of the women's Euros 2022 - England was the only bidder. Poor attendances in Holland in 2017 resulted in no interest from other countries. England was the only country to gamble on the growth of the women's game and believe that they could fill stadiums. Even so there were a number of stadiums in England that rejected the chance to host games because they thought it wouldn't pay. A lot of people were wrong about that. As it stands only the UK + Ireland and Turkey have bid for the 2028 Euros so the UK + Ireland might win. Since England won the World Cup in 1966 in the men's game England have hosted 0 World Cups and 2 European Championships. Germany have hosted 2 World Cup and 2 European Championships (including 2024). In the women's game Germany has hosted 1 World Cup and 2 Euros while England have hosted 0 World Cups and 2 Euros.
The bidding process to host Women’s Euro 25 concludes in December, so far Poland, France, Scandinavia & Switzerland/Liechtenstein have confirmed bids. Germany last hosted in 01, hopefully it won’t be too long before another bid to host. Interestingly the stadiums used were Erfurt, Jena, Ulm, Aalen & Reutlingen, with both semis and final in Ulm. The attendance for the final was 18k. I think if/when Germany next hosts the growth of the women’s game will mean much larger stadiums are used.
One thing I've noticed is that there's been no jingoistic nonsense in regards to the women's Euro compared to the men's NT's last two tournaments (2018 World Cup and 2021 Euro).
Must admit the game Was pretty good , what I liked about it the girls got on with it and played with passion . Not this rolling around on the floor . They just played - mens football could take some notes . Pity they lost - with bühl and popp missing was hard luck .
There was no crowd trouble or booing anthems etc, and fans mixed pretty well in the fan parks apparently. Probably no surprise the atmosphere was friendlier given the audience included a lot of women and kids without drunken hooligans lol.
Yeah, I guess that helps. Also, these drunken hooligans would never willingly go to a women's match, much less watch one on TV, as they firmly believe women have no business playing football.
LOL its to be expected that Germany would lose, no female Mustafi=no trophy. there I said it. until we find new Mustafis, Germany won't win anything.
Well Mustafi has a 5 year old daughter, so we maybe only need to wait another 5 or 6 tournaments until a trophy is guaranteed.
