Sounds good. So I think it's fair to say that a brilliant first touch was rather difficult under these conditions which is why we saw the ball skidding away as often as we did. Though I think the German team adapted rather well. It got better as the game went on.
Maybe I just have the wrong mental image then. When you said the balls get water-logged, I thought of the leather balls of old that would soak up the water and get really heavy. These modern plastic balls usually don't. Though I guess the surface water does make them somewhat heavier.
Greece is quite a bit different. They had scored 0 goals going into their last game, and they didn't look threatening in any of their games. They're arguably one of the 4 or so worst attacking teams in the entire tournament. They rely on their defense to carry them through. The US just can't do that. They needed to score multiple goals in every game they played, with the exception of yesterday. Quicker on some parts of the pitch, slower on others, depending on how much water there is. That's what makes it so difficult. This wasn't a European drizzle, this was a tropical downpour.
Oh Lord, yes the plastic balls still pick up water. Not as bad as the old Adidas Tangos, but yeah, they pick up water. And during some higher-level matches, the players' shoes can really tear up the coating of the ball. If you get torrential rain the balls get very water-logged. Light rain won't.
Read this. What a douche. He's lucky the police found him before the fans did. http://www.abendzeitung-muenchen.de...ser.b52eede9-a08f-47f7-8f6d-1f848a16045c.html
LMAO I am old enough to have been playing when those were the new Tango's We all coveting a Tango - i remember I got mine for Christmas I guess that was 82?
Yeah - also in the wet the ball can really skip on to you lower and faster than you expect so you mistime your touch
I thought it was 78...Tango=Argentina. Or is it tango=Spain? Because if that is the case....not sure if it is correct.
1978 as I recall. Then there was the Tango Espana for '82. Still the best damn ball I ever had. Still have it. Koeln gave every player on the youth roster a ball prior to the WM in '82. Nice gift. Sitting in my den right now. Kids not allowed to play with it.
OK - yeah - i was not playing in a club until 1980 when we had those old leather style balls This is the first tango i remember
Whew. Can exhale. Talk about a physical battle between schweinsteiger jones and Beckerman. Both thru which is fantastic Now I can enjoy some footy at a nice pub sans kids and then head back to the worlds largest music festival here in Milwaukee
