    3:0

Wait 3:1 because we will give up a 90th minute goal since we can't keep a clean sheet.

Lahm who's scored 5 goals in 105 matches? Might as well give Kroos a goal too.

You never know. Lahm does like to spring surprise goals in the WC/euros.

He could have one this time too

    Why not?

It's about time again for "every-two-years-and-only-in-major-tournaments-Lahm".

I agree. Unless one team manages a very early goal, I see this being a "feeling out game". Neither team will want to lose their first match, especially as the two favourites in the group.

I'm sure Lahm will drop off and help the LB as he did at Bayern.

F that noise. I don't care if Germany puts in the worst performance for a decade. I still want them to win the match.

    No Durm at fullback?

No Ozil in the starting 11?

    Surely that's not your lineup.

So many options..Lahm in midfield and not at fullback, so who partners him? Khedira, Kroos, or pigman?

Ozil as the playmaker, so who plays on either side between podolski/goetze, shurrle, Mueller..and who plays the false 9?

Either way I too expect a similar match up to 2012..Ronaldo is nowhere near 100% so it's up to other players..still question marks on who starts in midfield...does William Carvalho drop in?...and in place of meireles and his energy or veloso and his skill and passing? Or does Bento keep his usual midfield?

    Can't wait.

I bet on Germany winning the whole thing this season despite your injuries..better balance than Argentina, and more quality in the centre of midfield than Brazil. Spain will again pose opposition but if the right lineup is selected Germany's combination of skill and power could swamp and press them.

I'd be fine with that line up with exception of Podolski. Think it makes sense to counter Portuguese 4-3-3 with our own. We looked more flexible with it when we started like that against Armenia. I know it was Armenia but in terms of movement, it was different from what we played like in the past.

I can't not see Carvalho start. He has surpassed Veloso. And Meireles will start to offer energy. All of them are technically capable. They're Portuguese.

Durm I'm concerned because I chose him for my fantasy team:D

But surprised Ozil might be potentially benched, as he scored 8 goals in qualification. Again I agree, that formation makes sense to counter Portugal..especially with Khedira not 100% to partner Lahm playing a bit out of position in midfield..so makes perfect sense to see Kroos drop in. but then where does Ozil fit in? Goetze? That's the benefit of having depth though, as Shurrle and Podolski outwide make perfect sense to try and shackle Coentrao and Joao Periera from supporting the attack( a key part of Portugals game).

Meireles and skilled? An oxymoron if I ever saw one:D He works hard, provides steel and energy in harassing the opposition and driving forward, but lacks top tier quality imho.

William Carvalho hasn't replicated his Sporting form for the national team as of yet, he plays really within himself, no bursting runs or going by his opposing midfielder with skill, and he keeps his passing more safe..he looks a bit nervous.

Veloso's depth in passing might be missed as a result..which is why I like the William/Veloso/Moutinho combo with Meireles coming on against a tired midfield, where he himself might be more effective..but I can perfectly understand why Meireles' energy and bite could be important to start.

it's disappointing Germany isn't at full strength..Gundogen was sublime at Dortmund the past couple seasons, what a midfielder..I was looking forward to him and Reus playing a big part.

I would rather have Kroos lahm

Ozil in the hole, then gotze and schurrle on the wings with muller up top.

No attacking position set in stone..

Under no circumstance should poldi/klose start

Not bad though Mueller has not impressed as the false 9 for Bayern or die Mannschaft. I'd swap pos with Schuerrle.

I understand the interchanging logic. But one of the 3 has to be effective and efficient in the middle. Not sure Goetze or Mueller can play their best up top.

Maybe Podolski is our best bet now

Good luck, guys. I'm sorry about Reus, he would have been the challenge our defense needed in the opening game.

Will very likely be either of these two tactics:

    ----------------------------Neuer
    --Boateng--Mertesacker--Hummels--Hoewedes
    ----------------------------Lahm-----
    -------------------Khedira-------Kroos
    ---Goetze--------------Mueller------------ Podolski/Schuerrle

    If 4-2-3-1

    ------------------------------Neuer
    ---Boateng--Mertesacker--Hummels--Hoewedes
    --------------------Lahm--------Khedira
    ---Goetze---------------Oezil----------------Podolski/Schuerrle
    --------------------------Mueller

All depends on what Loew likes.

Bild said Loew will give Oezil another chance in his starting lineup. If Oezil is played, we will be playing 4-2-3-1 most likely

    --------------------------Neuer
    ---Boateng--Mertesacker--Hummels---Howedes
    -----------------Lahm--------Khedira
    ----Mueller-------------Oezil--------------Podolski
    -------------------------Schuerrle

I prefer a 4-3-3 for this game, for better defence:

    ------------------------Neuer
    --Boateng----Mertesacker---Hummels----Hoewedes
    ------------------------Lahm
    --------------Khedira-----------Kroos
    -----Goetze----------Mueller--------------Podolski

Cant start Schuerrle or Oezil in this setup. Kroos is better than Oezil defensively, and thats needed in the central midfield; Goetze more creative than Schuerrle, which is needed along with Mueller and Podolski........consider Oezil wont be there
