http://www.usopencup.com/History/index_E.html Aha! Another Unsolved Mystery solved. I think they just hadn't updated the site yet. That's the boring truth of it.
Had a call on my voicemail from the Wizards laying out the details of what ticket I should use, where/when etc. Unfortunately I leave that day, so I won't make this game.
I got a call yesterday about it too. I think it is nice they are taking the time to call all of the STH to tell them about it.
I actually got a voicemail at my work number, which I thought was a little odd. Didn't cause a problem for me, just thought it was strange that they wouldn't leave the message at home.
Re: How difficult is it You now there's a state-of-the-art stadium in Commerce City with no football lines and real grass that could have hosted this game. No offense to KC fans, I'm sure you're glad to see the game, but what is US Soccer thinking choosing a plastic high-school pitch over The Dick? Does anyone know how the decision of who got home field was made? Random draw? It wasn't by 2007 MLS standings because LA should have been froced to travel to Colorado if that was the case.
These days anymore it's just called "Daytime" contact number. No longer home/work/cell/office/fax etc...
Re: How difficult is it My guess is it was done by bids, the same way it's done throughout the tournament.
Re: How difficult is it Well, we usually play USOC games at a different HS stadium with real grass, but it wasn't large enough to hold all the season ticket holders who might be in attendance. I have always wondered how they pick which team hosts the games....made my head hurt, so I stopped wondering.
Re: How difficult is it I assume that each side guarenteed a minimum profit level to US Soccer, and KC was willing to guarentee more. I wonder how much KC (vs. US Soccer) will make on this compared to Colorado then. Colorado would have the expenses of opening the stadium, but no rent and the ability to have a greater attendance.
Re: How difficult is it I am not sure how they determine it but since we are the higher seed we are rightfully hosting the game regardless of the venue. Thats how it should be done IMO. Although, I agree that an SSS would obviously be a better choice to host any game.
Re: How difficult is it I agree, but US Soccer felt otherwise and forced us to travel to LA Tuesday night.
Re: How difficult is it ...and this sort of stuff right here is one of the reasons why this tournament means very little to me.
Re: How difficult is it And that attitude right there is the source of the vicious cycle USSF is in. USSF is one of the only soccer federations/FAs in the world that is isn't directly funded by its government. So they have to operate the US national soccer tournament on a shoestring, choosing venues not for competitive reasons, but by which option will result in the most revenue to the federation. Shouldn't have to be that way, it's a blight on American soccer.
Re: How difficult is it I'm glad the gov't doesn't run it. Have you seen how they run other stuff. I know US Soccer could only afford one fax machine back when people were trying for US tickets back in 2006 but having the gov't run it could only mean a bigger disaster.
Re: How difficult is it Colorado will be without Pablo, according to Ives, he's on the roster for the Spain friendly.
Re: How difficult is it The US Spain game is playing at 4:30 on ESPN classic. Does anyone want to watch at a bar near the stadium and then go to the open cup game?
Re: How difficult is it Yes, me and two others were just talking about that. Does anyone know of a bar nearby that will screen the game?
