Re: Philly or KC home opener MAY 5th?? It does? I thought it appeared to be a player that had every intention of going to Europe getting a contract in Europe like he wanted.
unfortunately I have not been told that information. But from a meeting the Cauldron had with a member of the Wizards staff last night we were informed that they are down to a few locations but he could not tell us where due to negotiations with those sites. But as he told us, there aren't very many places we can go, and all the places that have been discussed on the Wizards boards (which people in the Wizards organization read) are the places they considered as well.
why will it take one of the other teams winning a championship to bring a soccer team here, whether relocated or expansion? we used to call that non-sequitur, Latin for "It does not follow."
I am just being as pessimistic as possible so that I don't get my hopes up. While other cities (San Jose, Cleveland) have owners and plans for a stadium - we are still generally at the find a committed owner stage, the same stage we have been at since 1994.
Not to deter others in their efforts elsewhere, but SJ and Cleveland also have problems. San Jose has to deal with 2 other stadiums being built in their area (49ers in Santa Clara and A's in Fremont). Thats a lot of money already floating around for other sports. Too much attention to non-soccer developments? In Cleveland, while they do have a plan and a really cool stadium design, they have a hard road to get the money from the state/county. Plus MLS has been mysteriously quiet in commenting on the Cleveland plan (maybe thats good).
I'd say that's probably good for Cleveland. After all when was Salt Lake mentioned before they were announced?
Actually SLC wasn't even mention as a potential MLS city before it was announced. They came out of left field!
Why? Because they had an ownership group with a big check and a commitment to make a stadium happen. If the Cleveland expansion effort hadn't faltered, the San Jose Earthquakes may very well have wound up in Salt Lake City. But that's the lesson. Get an ownership group.
While there are certainly challenges in getting a new stadium built for San Jose, the potential 49ers and A's stadiums don't have much of a bearing on the San Jose Earthquakes' SSS search. Fremont was never publicly acknowledged as a potential Quakes SSS site and was never high on any list anyway, while the Santa Clara site that Lewis Wolff was eyeing as a potential site (one of Paramount's Great America overflow parking lots) but is now being offered to the 49ers was only one of the top four potential sites. Besides, Wolff has made it very clear that he'll fund the SSS privately, so public money (whether through taxes, bonds or whatever else) isn't an issue. -G
I have just heard that Lamar Hunt is in very bad health. He has been under sedation for a while now, after his cancer caused one of his lungs to collapse. It sounds bad. I hope they can make him comfortable... If he does pass away in the near future, and at the risk of sounding insenstitive, does this have any bearing on the Wiz moving here?
I would say no, Lamar does not own the Wizards anymore, he has no bearing on whether they would move or not.
Geez, where have you been since August ? Guess that space under the rock got REAL comfortable, since you are still fantasizing about moving the Wizards! The only influence Lamar Hunt has on Kansas City sports is on the Chiefs.
They may not be in Philly yet - But seriously, how long can they survive at Ray-Pec HS about 30 miles south of Arrowhead Stadium? - The stadium will need serious expansion to more than double its capacity to meet the 11K attendance, and expand the field and flatten the crown This does not look good for KC in the long run - They are at least 2-3 years from a stadium and this is what they'll have until then
How long? Well as you said, they'll survive for 2-3 years at the high school stadium, and then hopefully at that time move into a SSS. OnGoal is still looking to have an SSS built for the 2009 season. Outside of that info, anything else is really just speculation.
Does the death of Lamar Hunt (RIP) has any impact on the Wizards? Will the new ownership feels that there is no watchdog and they can move away?
I don't think the unfortunate death of Mr. Hunt has any bearing on the Wizards in any way, shape or form. Even if his did still own the Wizards, which they don't.
I'll just repost my last response. And the new owners are all local people, I doubt they needed a watch dog to have them keep the team in the city.
