To prolong the hijack, the NISOA uniform, which had the three-stripe different colored socks is now a single stripe. This means that for me in New York, I have three stripes for high school, two stripes for USSF, and one stripes for college!
Isn’t New York the state that allows no socks after Memorial Day or something too. Because you know those northern states get so hot.
The temptation to wear them on those rare days when I am doing solo games on the same field all day and matching them with my jersey is actually tempting.
That's pretty much exactly what the IFAB said in a recent "How the Laws Have Changed" blurb. Evolution of the role and gender neutrality.
Maybe it’s a local thing. I was pretty sure I read in another group I’m part of that some aspect of soccer refs in New York can forgo socks during a certain period. Oh well.
Oh, so it's not about the socks? You use white flags after Memorial day? (Uhh, I think we all got it was a joke. I can't believe you read my post and thought it was serious.)
Oh, I have those. Cheap $2 Pearls. Black, blue, red, green, yellow to match the USSF jerseys, orange and white to match the rec t-shirts, and even pink when I do a 7v7 girls' game. Now, where to find matching AR/linesmen flag colors...trying to get this thread back on topic.
Finally found a picture of the orange FIFA linesman badge from 1992 - wasn't sure if my memory of this was right but shockingly this was a thing.
Yes, there is quite an interesting story behind this! If I remember correctly, the orange linesmen badges were only used in 1992 and 1993. For 1994 and afterwards, no more. Why? Well, I'm sure that part of the reason was the (internally) controversial selections for World Cup 1994 - at least one, but probably (at least) one more, of the selected linesmen for the tournament were on the FIFA Referees list, not the Linesmen list. I recently found out that this caused a big stir at the time, and Blatter had to push it through by himself against the will (a good joke there for the observant ) of the committee. Contrary to the 'regular' FIFA badges for 1994, Lamolina, Taibi and Filippi Cavani below display that there was no "1994" on the WC versions. I guess this was because that some of the linesmen actually weren't "FIFA Linesman 1994", so the only way to keep the badges not 'fictitious' was this compromise. As a consequence we lost our (let's-show-everyone-this-change-by-making-it-a-stupid-colour-that-sticks-out) orange badges forever.
So here in PA West we are allowed to wear short socks between Memorial Day and Labor Day, for in-state games.
