In competitive matches all-time, the USA holds a 2-0-1 advantage. USA's only blemish against England was in the 2010 World Cup when the 'Murika Screaming Eagles drew with the English. But the Americans only needed a draw to advance, while England did not advance out of group play. So even the draw was really a win. Just watching the two nations play, it's clear that America is playing better soccer than England ever has. Did you see that drubbing of Bosnia? Wow. As for never winning a World Cup? I blame the world's jealousy. America has been so abused and cheated at the World Cup by FIFA officials. It is clear there is a systemic corruption within FIFA that deliberately tries to prevent America from advancing. Take a look at Brazil-USA in 1994, Germany-USA in 2002, and the entire 2010 WC. With unbiased officiating, America would have at the least three World Cup trophies right now. *Just so you imperialists know, you're the ones who invented the word soccer back in the 1850s at Oxford. Since America adopted the term you invented, that's what the sport is and should be called worldwide.
Tishoudy: member since 1999. The original question is legitimate. Besides one World Cup back in the dark ages before modern soccer existed, what does England have to show that it's a better soccer program than the United States? I mean if you want to claw back to the annals of history, America won the first international matches (you could call those World Cups if you'd like, back in the 1890s), not to mention a third place finish at the first World Cup. So let's stick to modern times and the US-England head to head record in competitive matches. When you do, it's pretty obvious that America has a better soccer program than England. And America is trending upward at a fast rate while England doesn't show much hope for the future. That's just the reality. Let's be real and let go of our stereotypes and biases.
And yet again, in the face of facts and reasoned analysis, you avoid the issues. Avoidance due to insecurity and weakness before the adversary is waving a white flag.
1. USA 2-0-1 all-time against England in competitive matches 2. When paired with England in the World Cup, America has advanced twice. England has advanced zero times. 3. England's only World Cup championship was nearly 50 years ago before the advent of modern soccer. 4. America was on top of the international soccer world 100 years ago, so should we also boast as England does about insignificant results from the dark ages of the game? 5. America's game is trending upward. England is stagnant at best. 6. America's youth are turning more and more to soccer. The level of play in America is skyrocketing. 7. England's youth are turning more and more to video games. Youth soccer in England is shockingly bad and getting worse. But you will again choose not to consider any of these issues because you cannot fathom losing the one thing on which you have always banked being better than America: soccer. But those days are gone. The colony has surpassed the motherland in all ways. BTW: Andy Murray is Scottish, not English.
Bruce Arena would have more trophies than Sir Alex Ferguson if he managed in Britain (or whatever that place is called)
Bruce Arena would have more trophies than Sir Alex Ferguson if he managed in Britain (or whatever that place is called)
Bob Bradley pisses on Bill Shankly but he is Scottish so I don't know if that counts USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA
if the Brits could only get Tim Tebow they would win the World Series or whateva that thing is called
Is there any reason England fans think they have a better soccer team than the United States? If so, let's discuss.
I think Mexico is better than America going to start a thread on the US of A board because I am sure that is what good posters do Mexico numero uno Estados Unidos numero dos
I am somewhat distraught that America can add nothing more existing at this time at which it can be better than England now. BTW: Scotland has infinitely better fish and chips than England.
