I don't recall either of the Wayland brothers every suiting up for DC United. Perhaps Matt was a coach at some point? http://cgi.ebay.com/1996-MLS-CHAMPI...ryZ45386QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Maybe someone should buy this and send it to the Red Bulls so they know what one looks like.
Same guy has this item: 1989 UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA NCAA CHAMPIONS RING SOCCER, #20 AND WAYLAND ON SIDE OF RING, NAME "MATT WAYLAND" INSIDE RING Never heard of him, but we had ALOT of players come and go really fast in '96
Matt and his brother Mark went to Lake Braddock and were on Virginia's team, but neither played for DC United. One was a goalkeeper and the other a forward. Maybe Richie Williams stole the items and pawned them off to pay for his tiny apartment in new york.
Teams these days tend to make different versions with the active roster players coaches and upper management getting much more ornate rings. A simple gold ring for a player who never got into a league game sounds about right.
Calling JH6...Calling JH6...expensive rare DCU item up for auction...attention! (unless that only applies to jerseys, then please disregard)
I thought that name sounded familiar. I played on a Fairfax league with Mark and Todd West who is now the Head Coach at AU.
Well, actually I was thinking Tiffany's would (like a designer's sample that MLS would have approved). K
I think this falls into the needED some quick cash column. I think it's a pawn shop that has this and his UVA ring up for aution.
I want to know why the heck you've allowed this to even get to Ebay, it's just been sitting in a pawnshop in Falls Church ......... you could have gotten it cheaper by just walking in ...........
Wow, that is going waaay back If my vague memory serves me right, I remember buying stuff through him when he was working for the Lanzera guys. The next time I saw him was when he was in the front office (a ticket rep?) in the first couple of years of DC United.
Hmmm... appears it may have been stolen: http://www.thesabre.com/message_board/general/2006/April/19/397511.php
That's the first time The Butterknife has been a source of anything other than humor for the rest of the ACC
well then buyer beware, you pay for that ring you'll lose it, then you may be left on your own to get your money back...
Matt Wayland was definitly a ticket sales rep in '96 and '97. He's the guy who sold me my season tix in those years. I believe he even won a front office award that first season. He was a nice guy as I remember. Didn't anybody else get one of those certificates of ownership that looked like a high school award certificate when they got their first season tix? On mine he signed the bottom so I'm positive he is the same guy who's likely selling this ring. As for selling it. It may not be just for cash. He probably never wears it. Can you imagine people asking about the ring and you reply that you were a ticket agent and not a player? I mean general manager or coach is acceptable, but a ticket rep with a Cup ring might seem a bit pretentious.
