I know that, I was just pointing out the irony of the Timbers being potentially sponsored by a company based so closed to Seattle. Any forest products (except maybe Boise Cascade or Georgia Pacific - that just would be strange) company would be a cool tie in.

Although I still think Stumptown coffee would be fantastic, in both senses of the word.

Federal Way isn't Seattle, Federal Way is outer space.

No, that makes it seem much more interesting than it really is.

I would love nothing more than to see Nike sponsor the Timbers. I would take a great amount of malicious glee in seeing the Nike swoosh slapped onto an Adidas jersey.

How about Intel they have 15,500 employees in Oregon making them the largest private employer. There certainly not shy about spending on advertising and the logo would look decent on a kit.

I believe previously it was only 40% of Widmer. I don't know how much now.

Technically it is InBev, since they bought Anheuser-Busch, but Widmer merged with RedHook a couple of years ago and InBev is a minority owner.

Redhook owns Widmer, and InBev owns 25% of RedHook, not 40%. It wasn't a merger, they actually bought the company. Much like Magic Hat bought Pyramid.

does the MLS allow gambling companies (like England)- PaddyPower, Boylesport.com etc

If not do you see them allowing it?

I just wanted to add that I might be moving to Portland and would love to support an expansion team up there. Good luck!

Wow, well be sure to enjoy USL Timbers as well guys if you're here before 2011. It's a great time and unparalleled in the league. Plus next season should be fantastic. Paulson seems to want to prepare the club for MLS by spending money on quality players.

One of the world leaders in Wind Generation has its U.S. headquarters in Portland. World headquarters is in Spain.

I don't see that kind of marketting to HUGE billion dollar customers being the kind of sponsorship that will work in Portland.

It would be awesome for either, AWESOME, but I just don't see it.

I love how you guys just assume you get a sponsor. Don't get me wrong as I really hope you do.. really.. but just imagine how I feel living in Dallas and having no sponsor for my team? There isn't enough room on this page to list all the potential huge nation-wide sponsors that are based here in Dallas.

    Here's a short list:

    Dr. Pepper
    Pizza Hut
    Taco Bueno
    Cadbury-Schwepps
    Frito-Lay
    EDS
    American Airlines
    Southwest Airlines
    JC Penny's
    Hotels.com
    Texas Instruments

    So depressing!!

The big difference here is that Dallas FC is definitely "minor league" when compared to the Cowboys and Mavericks. Perhaps even when compared to the Rangers and Stars. I'm not sure a major sponsor would want to put their logo on a 3rd, 4th or 5th tier team (for the locality). No offense intended. I think the Dallas sports market is saturated.

In Portland, the Timbers will have the full attention of the populace, at least during the Trailblazer's off season. And even with the overlaps, I think everyone believes that the Timbers will be every bit as popular as the blazers.

Honestly I am surprised Pizza Hut didnt sponsor the kits, I mean they have naming rights to the home field.

Same with Home Depot- nice stadium, high profile team playing in it... with a pyramid scheme as the jersey sponsor.
