So with Donovan out, who takes penalties for us in Brazil? I'd prefer it not be Dempsey -- I've seen him miss too many. Bradley?
I think that if johannsson is in the game he will take them. If not it will probably be Dempsey although I would rather have Bradley or even Davis take it.
I can't remember ever seeing Jozy take one. While I love me some Deuce, it's heart-in-mouth time when he steps up to the spot. ~OGx3
Anyone besides Dempsey, and I mean anyone. Just too often has he just hit the ball as hard as he can hoping it goes in without even aiming it.
Bradley and Clint are shifty as hell taking penalties. Ive gotta go with Jozy, but I know its gonna be Dempsey.
Jozy did take at least one for Az in a cup game I believe, amidst some racism controversy. Of equal import, he took a great pk against Slovenia in the fall of 2011 for us. I do not know enough about our guys other than that I would prefer Deuce not take one. Bradley, iirc, has had mixed success. I recall a miss or two with BMG. Surely, some enterprising US soccer pundit has done some statistical work on this...no?
As much as I agree with the sentiment that Dempsey isn't the best choice for taking penalties, he is 3/4 for the NT while taking them. The only one he missed was the Mexico one.
We know that Davis, Wondo and Zusi take them for their teams, I believe. Not sure whether successful. Per transfermarkt, Kyle Beckerman has taken 1 in his career. That strikes me as wrong since we know he converted in MLS cup. [Besler missed, Zusi missed]. http://www.mlssoccer.com/video/2013...p-2013-sporting-kansas-city-vs-real-salt-lake [10:17 for KB. Besler before that] Aron seems like he has the confidence but that is a gut thing. Fabian?
T-Ho. For his career, he is a perfect 100% in converting shots-on-goal into goals. No one else comes close.
Given that the Mexico miss was right after his awful PK versus Costa Rica which happened to go in...That doesn't really inspire confidence. That the Mex PK was seemingly low pressure, given that the game was pretty much in hand, adds a layer of discomfort for me. There's just too much evidence of Deuce being shaky in this area for me. I realize that even great PK takers miss now and then...but they rebound and seem to put the misses behind them. http://americansoccernow.com/articles/clint-dempsey-should-never-take-pks-for-the-u-s
Really should be Jozy. He actually places them with a fair bit of power as opposed to Dempsey who just hits with power and hopes the keeper guesses wrong. If it comes to shoot outs, I'd think Jurgen would sub on Johannsson and maybe Mix. Here is my 5: 1. Johannsson 2. Dempsey 3. Jozy 4. Cameron 5. Davis 6. Johnson 7. Bradley 8. Beasley This is assuming who would be on the field after 120 minutes. People like bedoya would like have been subbed off for someone like Davis or Zusi.
This probably means nothing, but after the open practice at The Stick, Jones and Mix stayed on practicing PKs for another 5-10 minutes or so.
Davis is successful for the Dynamo in taking pens. But this ain't the MLS and who knows what the situation may be if he's called on to take one in a World Cup. Much much more pressure. I'd go with Dempsey or Bradley but I'm not sure on either to be honest.
Id feel more secure about Klinsmann taking our PKs......is that an option? I distain his coaching, but from the spot he could be useful lol. Sad, our coach could be our best PK taker
is he bad? not hip. tks. Are people suggesting Dempsey because they think that is what is JK is likely to do (or is otherwise likely to happen by default) or because they think he should take them? If the latter, I guess I find that strange. Then again, I think its mind boggling that Stoke continued to send out Jonathan Walters to take Pks after he had missed 3 last year.
