I have posed this question in the Beat and Freedom forums.

There is a chance that a match could end in a draw at the end of 105 mins. After that it comes down to PK's and look at what happened at Foxboro last season .

So who on the Courage will be taking a PK if it comes down to this?

    Penalties attempted this season:

    5 - Washington
    3 - San Jose, Atlanta
    2 - Philadelphia, Boston
1 - New York, San Diego
    0 - Carolina

We played 21 games, or 1,890 minutes without a single one of our players being fouled in the 18'x44' area that we are trying to get to, or having an opposing player play the ball with their hand in the same said area.

    Riiiiiiiiiiigggghhhhhht.

    The flipside

    PKs Against
    4 - San Diego
3 - New York, San Jose
    2 - Boston, Washington, Philadelphia
    1 - Carolina
    0 - Atlanta

Atlanta???? They led the league in Fouls Commited by over 1 foul per game????

    Anyway

13 of 17 PKs ended in goals
Mia Hamm shot wide left on her second PK of the season
Kristine Lilly put her attempt over the crossbar
Erin Fahey saved from Charmaine Hooper
LaKeysia Beene saved from Kylie Bivens

hmm Atlanta did miss 2 of their 3 attempts. Nikki Serlenga put one in.

I guess the bigger question is, who would Atlanta use?

    I'm on a roll now!

    2001 PKs taken:
    3 - Carolina, Philadelphia
2 - Washington, Bay Area, New York
1 - Boston, Atlanta, San Diego

    2001 PKs Against
    4 - Bay Area
    3 - Carolina
    2 - New York, Boston
1 - San Diego, Washington, Atlanta, Philadelphia

Fotop was 1 for 2, and Hege Riise netted her attempt. 11 of the 15 attempts were goals, leaguewide.

I have to admit that the Beat totally suck at PK's Serlenga's Pk, the only one that made it in against NY, barely was a goal! I just hope no one will have to go to PK's. I hate them and they are not a very good way of ending matches. It doesn't test the team but more the individual's ability to handle pressure and a whole crap load of LUCK!

    Stats from Andy

I found Andy Mead's statistics fascinating, especially the complete lack of Courage PK's this season. I had no idea.

If it does come down to PK's, I hope the following are on the field:

    Hege Riise
    Birgit Prinz
    Danielle Fotopoulos
    Danielle Slaton
    Unni Lehn
    ---

    Tiffany Roberts
    Net Fettig
    Staci Burt
    Carla Overbeck
    Brooke O'Hanly

    Let's hope we just win!

    Re: Stats from Andy

If Overbeck is on the field, it likely won't be coming down to PKs. If she's playing, it's because we're either winning big, or losing big, and she's on for a "last hurrah"

As far as Prinz and Fotop go, strikers and PKs are a weird thing. A lot of top strikers are awful PK takers.

See Charmaine Hooper. She'd be a top striker if she didnt bitch and complain about everything.

What the hell does one have with the other? bitching and complaining has nothing to do with PK ability. Please take this somewhere else.

I quoted when they said good strikers were bad PK takers. So I said see Hooper. And I knew someone would say something about her not being a good striker because she dives and complains about everything. So I said it

Don't let it bother you, BC63. Andy's just in one of his snarley moods today. Or should that be spelled snarly?

Easy there sailor, I'm actually in a pretty good mood. I was merely pointing out to the lass that this was the Carolina Courage forum and that, while we all appreciate complaining about Atlanta Beat forwards, her post seemed to be completely out of character for the rest of the thread. Of course I am now guilty of the same offense. C'est la vie.

I don't know that we've ever crossed paths, but you seem to like to snipe at my heels from time to time. I guess my crimes against the state stem from all my nay-saying last season. Well, we did finish last. Can we move on, now?

Let's try to be more civil here, please. And not tell other posters to take their posts elsewhere.

... Personal discussions off-line. Ignore lists turned on. Now, back to the PK kickers issue....
