WHO ARE THE TOP GOAL SCORERS EVER FOR THE AZZURI??? Can we get a list of the top 10 goal scorers ever for the azzuri?
Here you go: http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/ital-recintlp.html#goals Gigi Riva leads the way with 35. Giuseppe Meazza had 33 Silvio Piola 30 Roberto Baggio 27 Leader among active players is Del Piero, who is in 7th place with 24.
Two players who were with the Azzurri in the glorious 1930s team and two players who should have scored more than the tally that they have on that list. Molto interessante.
I know he's your hero delp, but unfortunately, I think many of us will agree with doria. Alex was a very good player for club and country during his prime which has sadly past him by. Time has a way of doing that to all of us (except for Sue).
Well time will Tell for him and Totti i guesse we will really see their true selves next year i guesse.
Del Piero is about 32 years old, so that also has to be taken into consideration. Totti is a few years younger and if he can stop acting like a primadonna and try to be level-headed, he can perform.
DEl Piero is not Finished yet he will still get a few more ogals for Italia ... he is in rampant form from the end of last season and he will fight his way to the world cup ... u will never have witnessed a ALe like u will see this year mark my words he will punish the rest of serie a, Sheva who? Fear him
Del Piero still has his moments for Juve, I admit that but he doesn't perform consistently for Juve and his track record for the Azzurri isn't exactly the greatest despite the stats given by SueB. ADPJuventus, you seem too optimistic and you don't see too much of the reality. He is 32 years old and nobody can't expect him to perform like he did between 1994-1998. Fear him? Not really. He's unpredictable so you don't know if he will play a fantastic game or a shocker.
actually he is 31 get your facts straight guys he is actually turning 31 in November 9. I know this stuff. And yes he is unpredictable but i believe hell come out for something next year. If he doenst make the azzurri i hoipe he at least wins champs league. The guys deserves it.
I have a notion that Gilardino is going to end up with about as many goals as Riva (though his ratio for goals/ games will never be as robust). Anyone willing to hazard a guess as to how many he'll net--supposing he gets, say, 65 games with the NT and remains healthy?
If he can get about 65 caps, I think he can atleast catch Riva at 35 goals and even surpass the mark. Maybe around 45 goals or so...
It may sound like we're hyping Gila up, but I agree with you . . . The kid has an incredible talent for goal-scoring and you have to consider that he's not in his prime yet. It's scary. It's funny, by the way, to look at Italy's top goal- scorers. 35 is huge for the Azzurri, but for Brazil you'll need 60 or 70 to be a legend!
Italy has to have one of the lowest Highest goal tally at the top of it's Goalscorer's list for a big footballing nation. I think it's because we've had so many different goal-scoring protaganists at every major tournament: 82- Rossi 90- Schillaci 94- Baggio 96- Del Piero/Zola, it was a wierd tournament 98, 2002- Vieri 2000- Inzaghi scored most goals, but it was really a 'team effort' 2004- Cassano
The age-old 'staffeta', the fight between two strikers for first team action. Surely . . . Another element to consider is the typically Italian sense of proportion. A 2-0 or 3-0 win is "bella" for Azzurri fans; a win by more is "brutto," ugly and inflated. How many times have Italy beat a team 1-0 or 2-0 when it could have run the score to 5 or 6?
Zola and Del Piero were the two strikers at Euro '96. But Italy didn't score many goals, and were knocked out in the first round. This was Sacchi's last tournament.
You forgot to mention Altobelli in 1986. He scored four of Italy's five goals in that tornament and in regards to the other goal, he forced a Korean defender into scoring an own goal. In 1996, Zola and Del Piero didn't even score a goal. Italy only scored three goals. Two by Casiraghi and a single by Chiesa. Many sources say different things. Some say that he is 30, some say 31, 32 or 33. Winning the Champions League is probably the only thing that Del Piero can hope for. I hate when Azzurri fans think like that. In some interviews with Italian fans, they say that a "bella" win is "due-zero, due-zero" and then there's a Spanish guy that says "Cinco-zero. Cinco." In all honesty, there have been many 1-0 wins in which Italy should have scored 5 or 6. The first two group matches and the Quarter-Final against Ireland at Italia 90 are great examples. Italy vs Norway at France 98 is another and Italy vs Ecuador at the last World Cup should have been more than 2-0.
