Totti was born and raised an AS Roma supporter. He has stated in the past that he will never play for another club.
He has also said he will play for another club(just not in Italy). You can't believe anything players say nowadays. Figo said he would stay at Barca forever the day before he signed for Real. The most loyal player is undoubtedly Paolo Maldini. He has now been at Milan for 21 years and he plans on playing two more years. He had many big offers to leave Milan in the 90's and he rejected them all.
Batigoal got my vote.... consider that he is not from their youth rank. He is not from Florence. He is not even from Italy. And he spends his golden years over there. He even remains with them when they went to Serie B. That was during the beginning of his career when he needs to break out. Paolo Maldini is also a good choice, but he is son of another AC Milan great. He is AC Milan.
His was the first name to come to mind. I don't believe any player has been more loyal to a club. I even think he was an international when he decided to stay at Fiorentina.
Hmm, stupid people! For some people like Totti and their are a few more, not many, who would play at the club of their dreams, the clubs they grew up loving and whose colours they bled. Some players will sacrifice the trophies or try and prove how great they are by bringing the trophies to their Clubs out of loyalty! To answer your assinine question, for a select few it is more important to be loyal to a club!
Puyol has been incredidibly loyal to Barcelona, while most players fighet tooth and nail to get more money, at the begining of this season he actually took a pay cut to enable the team to continue to grow.
Uwe Seeler. Born in Hamburg, father and Brother played fpr Hamburger SV, heself played in official HSV youth teams from the age of 9, entered 1st team at the age of 16, played his whole senior career, from 1953 to 1972 for HSV, reject a million Deutschmark offer from Inter Milan in 1961, although at that time german footballers were amateurs with incomes under 2000,- /month, because he didn´t want to leave his town and team.
Giggsy...he's been at United forever and doesn't want to leave despite other teams' interests. Even at City's academy he was wearing red shirts to get on them. In general, it's nice to see loyal players in this day of thirsting for money and silverware.
This topic shows how unknown Javier Zanetti is. He's toiled at Inter for a decade and the only thing we've won in that span is a UEFA Cup. I hear names like Del Piero, Raul and Totti.... are you serious!? Staying at one club for a long time is one thing, but staying at the one club without winning anything is another. All those players have won their respective domestic titles and even some CL trophies. When your team is doing well like that, why would you wanna leave? Il Capitano has shrugged off offers from more sucessful teams time and time again and continues to toil at the Black and Blue side of Milan, despite not winning a Scudetto in 15 years.... soon to be 16. You just can't find loyalty like that in any sport nowadays.
Henrik Larsson stayed at celtic for years when he was recieving many offers from other clubs- in the end he only left because he was sick of the cold weather of scotland- also, matthew le tissier stuck with southampton for his entire career despite them never winning a premiership. I see people who have listed players such as maldini, giggs or raul, attempting to label them as 'loyal'. Remember that it's easy to stay at a club when you're winning titles and getting paid top dollar- there's simply no reason to leave.
Well many do, for a variety of reasons, i just don't think that a player can be called truly loyal for choosing to stay with a club that can provide him with the sort of success that every player dreams of. The three players i mentioned have all won numerous league titles and even champions leagues with their clubs.
What?! You must be kidding right. 1) When he left Sporting, he agreed to sign with both Juve & another club (I think it was Inter). He ended up in Spain because he was restricted from going to Serie A. 2)He left Barca for Real. You just don't do that. Most loyal. Has to be Paolo Maldini.
Steve Bull - Stayed with Wolves from thier slums to first division to fourth. Iwan Roberts - Norwich Tore Andre Flo - Never complained about being on the bench for Chelski And a mention to Tony Parkes - 35 years service to Blackburn Rovers as player, Assistant Manager, Coach and the water bottle man only to be sacked and only hear about it via the paper.
no doubt matt le tissier was the most loyal staying at southampton for the whole of his career despite the big teams being interested in him. THE MAN SACRIFISED HIS ENGLAND CAREER FOR THAT CLUB
Demis Nikolaidis-AEK. http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UEFACup/news/Kind=1/newsId=258940.html From star player to saviour....
If Leeds were not relegated you'd have to put Alan Smith in this catagory.... Even though he is still young, had they not been relegated, he would have died for that club, and he never would have left by his own decision. How about Old Tony Adams
