I said it was hard, I didn't say I couldn't do it. Probably not helping the cause there. Another good thing about DC: When Ali Curtis and Ben Olsen work a charity ice cream thing, they actually work. Their service was better than the other two Ben and Jerry's free cone days, and it's not even their job. Also, the "It's the coach, stupid!" plane...and, I'm still the best.
Nico, You can't go with the Fire. How great can a team be if their GM doesn't have the quam to be a premium member?
See, you can't just make an arbitrary decision based on other people's suggestions. Watch the games and see which one you identify with the most, for whatever reason, then suffer as the team undergoes so many changes as to become unrecognizable from the one you fell in love with.
[whispering] Actually, I'm just asking to see what people say. No one's actually going to sway me. [/whispering]
#1 reason why you should support the Dallas Burn: We don't have a General Manager who sits around and surfs BigSoccer all day. Other than that, there's not a single damn reason why you should cheer for the Burn. Yeah, we'll have our own stadium in two years while the Fire will still be playing Kato Kaelin to the Bears' OJ Simpson, but really, I always thought that some of the lamest people in the world were people who cheered for a team based on its venue. Really, it's just one step up from supporting a team because you like their colors. Do we have great players? Uh, no. Unless you consider "running the worst offside traps known to mankind" or "not being able create anything inside 35 yards" to be a virtue. Do we have great fans? C'mon. We haven't broken five figures yet this season. But at least we've got a clue. Fire fans think that their team is worth a crap even though DC United won a championship more recently than they did. You can't even follow us on TV unless you're paying $49 for the Shootout. Which is just as well, I suppose, given the way we're playing. But if you pay $49 to watch your team getting slapped around worse than Tina got slapped around by Ike, then you, sir, are a masochist. Oh yeah, here's a good reason to support the Burn: If you ever come to see a game live, there's no lack of strip clubs to go to.
Re: Re: Which MLS team should I support? Texas must be the strip club capitol of the world. We went to the USA-Mexico game in Houston and the whole city was one big strip club/adult video store. I went into a Wherehouse Music while my wife was in a shoestore next door. They even had a porno section in Wherehouse music! I was looking at Pavement & Radiohead DVDs one second and then wandered a little to far and BAM, there's the porno section. Bizarre.
I never miss an opportunity to plug the greatest place of business ever known to man. No trip to Dallas is complete without a trip to The Lodge. The dances are $20, the songs are half again as short as normal strip club songs, and there's a stuffed bear at the door. But every lady is porno mag quality. Located just minutes from Centennial, the closest place to Irving to buy booze. God, I miss Texas.
You should've gone to The Men's Club. It's got the seal of approval from the '90s-era Dallas Cowboys. I once went there with a co-worker who was about to get married, and standing in line in front of me was a group of Cowboys players, including Mark Tuinei. Yeah, THAT Mark Tuinei, the guy that ODed a few years later.
I figured as much...but I figured I should at least divulge some info so people will still have some interest in the thread. I've also eliminated: New England Colorado (I mean come on, nobody voted for them) Others are eliminated too, but I can't let it all out at once.
I just read that, eventhough its almost three weeks old. You know what they say about DC though don't you? Southern efficiency, Northern charm
Columbus. What other city supports its club and country with equal passion? I don't remember other city's having outdoor community viewings that did so well.. The team: Attack-minded and young and old U.S. international talent. Now that we have a PDL team bringing in local boys, expect to see even more boys from the "Buckeye State" playing for the black and gold in the future. And if Cleveland (or anywhere in Michigan, for that matter) hooks a team, look out for a rivalry that would mean much more than some trophy based upon the club's names. The Fans: Die-hard and knowledgeble. Our attendance average isn't so high just because of brats! No matter what MLS city the Crew play in, you can guarantee there will be at least a handful of Crew fans there, we're everwhere! The stadium: Pretty much has been spoken for, but the fact they're still upgrading and renovating means that this team is here to stay, MLS or no MLS. Having Lamar Hunt as an owner never hurts... Consider that.
i dont care who you pick just dont pick the fire, metrostars, burn, galxy, revs, quakes, wizards, crew, or the rapids
This would be moot if... If Atlanta hadn't built that god forsaken Dome and had instead an open air (read real grass) stadium, there is a good chance the MLS would of gained by venturing into the central hub of southern commerce, and this speculation would indeed would be moot. The whole SE would have a soccer identity and instead of watching and traveling afar, we would have it here at our feet. I would bet that Atlanta would have been part of WC 94 and subsequent USMNT games and qualifying. Boo Hoo... OK enuff enuff Can't help but wonder of course, but still wonder none the less...
Re: This would be moot if... yes, domes are the bane of a southerner's soccer existence. why the piss do they want to build domes down here anyway? it's not like it ever really gets that cold....and they don't play football in the summer. For some retarted reason that is beyond comprehension, Birmingham's city council is trying to get funding to build a dome. So let me get this straight, we have no pro football, and we already have an 80,000+ seat stadum and the University of Alabama plays maybe one a game a year there and UAB can only get it about 33% full? Great idea guys, great idea.
Speaking of stadiums... There is a new Silverbacks website called www.BacksFan.com They have an article on A-league behind the scenes and it details some stuff about the club. One of the plans in the works is a new 5,000 or so seated stadium north of Atlanta @ I-285 and I-85. Sounds like the owner is committed. P.S. saw that you Alabama guys where looking to come to a game.... next home game is July 26 @ 6pm vs. Montreal (Bobble-head guerrilla night!) ..y'all ought to come. not really on-topic but anyway double P.S. or P.S.S. saw this on the team website: 'Just show your Kroger Plus Card at the gate at select Atlanta Silverbacks games and receive 20% off the price of admission. Inside the arena when you want to buy some cool new Silverbacks merchandise show your Kroger Plus Card again and you"ll get 20% off your favorite merchandise.' -the stars are aligning here how can you resist...
