I realize that he's no longer in the USMNT picture, but I couldn't figure out a better place to post this question. It's been three months since New England bought him out. I thought maybe he was waiting until after the U.S. Open to announce retirement, so he wouldn't be a distraction to his wife, but that's been over for a week. Where is he?
He should give the USL a go, always cool to see former NT players pop up there and he’d be the biggest to have done so along with Howard.
I don't know, but he's only 33. My club, FCD, is desperate for any semblance of a backup to Ferreira (with Kamungo out for an extended period). He'd have to really bit the salary bullet to play for MLS or USL clubs right now. He was on a massive contract before, and now would need to play for scraps. I do kinda feel like Jozy has deserved a better "send off" from USMNT fans than he's gotten. 115 caps. A better goals/cap ratio than McBride, Wynalda, and others. He had plenty of great moments in his international career. He just never had that signature World Cup moment that creates legends. A shame, but reality.
He’s got the Spain goal. And as someone who values the Gold Cup his free kick in the 2017 final is a great moment. I hope he has another club stint in him.
Indeed. He scored a lot of important goals for the USMNT. But without that signature World Cup goal or performance, there's some shine that isn't there. He was in good form heading into the 2014 World Cup. That should have been his time. Then he got hurt in our first game. I just dont' know about another good club stint. He's only about to turn 34. But at this point it sure seems like there's not much treat left on those tires. I mean, Eddie Gaven is 36 and it seems like he retired lifetimes ago.
He's done, and I suspect that Jozy doesn't even really want to play anymore in the sense that he doesn't want to do all the less fun parts around playing. He needed to play out his contract to get that bag -- and good for him -- and I imagine he's moving on.
Maybe he's very happy with his new life of being a husband and a father. He has a son named Cameron (surely not named after Geoff Cameron. )
We're gonna break out the hats and hooters When Jozy comes home We're gonna rev up the motor scooters When Jozy comes home to stay
I heard that he is hanging with Bruce now that Bruce has more time on his hands. They sit around rubbing their bellies and talk about the good old days...
Even though he is only 33 going on 34 in November, Jozy has been playing since 2006 so he doesn’t see all that young anymore. On the other hand, Reggie Cannon at 25 without a club seems very strange.
When I posted , i didn't know about that legal mess. Having a 25 year old, top USMNT player without a club is never a good thing. I'm glad he is signing with QPR though.
How old is Cameron? Surely, if he decides to dedicate his life to soccer, he'll be one to watch for in the future. Helluva gene pool he's drawing from.
Unlike RBG and Scalia, Jozy and Geoff Cameron have never given any indication that they like eachother.
Just one point. Geoff's mother isn't Sloane Stephens. Hard to find info on the mother of Jozy's son online.
I doubt he would even talk to Bruce again... ever. Bruce threw him a lifeline when Toronto cut him loose. Made every excuse he could for him, such as getting in shape takes time blah blah blah. He was somewhat a problem with some assistant coaches (not sure which one) and finally Bruce bought out his contract and sent him packing. Bottom line is signing him was a big mistake and he is DONE. Any drive he once had is long gone. It doesn't mater where he plays... he's done. Like Freddy Adu, Im sure he blames everyone but the guy he sees in the mirror
IMO, Jozy lost almost total interest in soccer more than a couple of years ago except for the getting paid part. Bruce thought he could get something from him but no dice.
Since he has or had his Euro passport and is a European citizen, maybe Jozy can latch on with a second division team somewhere in Europe or if all else fails, the USL?
