When Jyri Nieminen came to the Quakes, he was a youth GK coach. A little bird told me the guy was a disaster and his "coaching" led to Tarbell's decline. When Almeyda came to the quakes, he brought his own GK coach with him, a guy who I think had worked with either the ARG or MEX national team. According to TransferMarkt, Nieminen left the Quakes in Jun-2019, but I'm pretty sure he had little role in Almeyda's first 6 months, unless it was to retrieve balls.
I noticed that he couldn't really kick the ball very well at the GKs, unlike Tim Hanley who could still do that even at 50.
Has anyone else been following the formation of the new Monterey Bay FC USL team? Frank Yallop was previously listed as their Sporting Director, and was just named their first Head Coach, with Ramiro Corrales named as an assistant. https://www.montereybayfc.com/news_article/show/1159522
Would Cannon be red carded for this today? Can you spot the error? Maybe our good friend @bsman can give some ref insights.
He came off the line. He should have gotten a yellow and they should have retaken it. The VAR will have reversed it for sure....
Good thing you aren't a ref. The first time, it is NOT a yellow card. It is a warning, and the kick is retaken. If he does it again, THEN and ONLY then is it a card.
Joe was WAAAAY off his line before the ball was kicked. He should have been yellow carded for unsporting behavior and the kick retaken.
No, he wouldn't. I wish you folks would actually spend some time and learn the ********ing laws! This is directly from Law 14, so shut up about the yellow: There are 17 laws, people. It takes an hour to read them (although perhaps a lifetime to truly understand them). Please everybody - go here and actually read them before you pipe up and make yourselves look like idiots: https://www.theifab.com/laws You people remind me of the moronic coaches, parents, and players I have to deal with all the time who spout a bunch of nonsense that clearly shows how ignorant they are of what the laws actually say.
This is the one and only time in the Quakes/Clash history a guest player got into the game because we were so depleted. Other call up players were Kevin Rueda, John Cariel in 1998 Mark Beana, Anthony Farace, Sean Henderson, J.J. Wozniak and Anthony Latronica in 1999. Tim Weaver and Ryan Edwards in 2000 Tim Weaver in 2001 Leighton O'Brien in 2002
Ouch! Yes. I have read the LOTG. Many times. I was too terse. The point I had wanted to make was to negate the idea that, if a card was issued it would NOT be a red. Not sure where that idea came from. All I had intended to point out is, if a card is warranted, it is a yellow, not a red.
Not really soccer related but it is indirectly related... Former San Jose defender Oscar Draguicevich’s son just signed an NFL contract... Washington State punter Oscar Draguicevich III agrees to free agent deal with Carolina Panthers
Someone pointed out on reddit - DeRo has an autobiography out. Will be interesting to see what he has to say about his time in San Jose, but sounds like there is an emphasis on his experiences at TFC and Canadian Nats. https://www.timescolonist.com/sport...-in-new-autobiography-dero-my-life-1.24317255

Alberto Quintero playing in the Libertadores for Peruvian side Universitario yesterday. Receives red card in the 17th minute (27 second mark in the video):
Just ran into Victor Bernardez at the store, that guy looks like he could easily slot back in alongside Flo, the guys in great shape, rocking his Oakland Roots shirt...we both agreed the Quakes never really found anyone to replace him, once he left. Great defender. Great guy.
Does he speak English well enough that you could converse with him in English, or do you speak Spanish? I saw him and another player (can't remember who) at Santana Row one time, but didn't bother to interrupt and try to talk to him. I think they were making a beeline for Fogo De Chão.
I used to run into him occasionally (a few years ago) at the local grocery store and my sense was then that his English was more limited. Unfortunately I don’t speak much Spanish. Tonight though he was more conversational for sure and we commiserated for a few minutes about the Quakes and I wished him luck in Oakland. I think he may be coaching up there but I’m not sure. He’s bulked up, definitely put on some muscle weight while staying lean, looks like he could still anchor our D.
Such a good guy, and solid for us. I still don't understand why he was let go -- it's not like the team had players who could effectively fill that role.
I see him now and then with one of his LFC clubs. Very positive coach, and he has never given me the least bit of trouble on the bench. Ian Russell is/was the same way. Dayak can be a handful now and then, and Brandi can be a right PITA!
