Where did we get that "Red, White, and Blue" song?

I finally watched my TiVo of the US/Panama game and heard that obnoxious song again. Where did we dig that thing up from? I guess it didn't help that we scored six goals, so we heard it a lot that night.

It is worse than "Who let the dogs out".

Hey, hey, hey. For the red, white, and blue.

US Soccer and Phillips held a contest for the new USMNT theme song to be played after the US scores a goal. Some guy from out West penned the song I think. If I recall, at the Sep USMT qualifyer in Foxboro in 2001, Sam's Army gave out t-shirts sponsored by Phillips with the song on it or something. The song and t-shirt didn't go over well.

Of course I wasn't there... :( But this is what my friend told me who was there. If I missed anything or got something wrong please correct it.

Doesn't the singer have some sort of "Pet Shop Boys" accent too? It seemed that way at RFK, which is the first time I heard it.
    That's just wrong.

it seemed more like a ricky martin accent to me, which is much much worse. i actually thought the song was meant to mimic the equally obnoxious theme song mr. martin penned for world cup '98.

    Where? I'll tell ya.
From the flamin' pits of hell! That's where. I'd rather hear Conway Twitty singing "Hello Darlin'."

I bury my head in the couch cushions out of shame every time I hear that thing. It's aweful. Who can we complain to? It needs to be changed.

I'm not one to get to many games in person (only been to one), but watching on TV makes me want to stuff a few Cheetos into my ears when it comes on

My 8 year old cousin picked up on that. He said that it sounded like Ricky Martin, and he told me it sucked. If it doesn't even amuse an 8 year old, who even thinks Lenny Kravitz rocks, then how lame must it be for everyone else? Pretty f'n lame.

Not only do they play that freaking song when the US scores, but at RFK against Panama it bracketed the action. I think between the six American goals and the beginning, end of first half, beginning of second half, etc. it was played 10 times at least.

I like the idea of having some sort of standard thing to sing after a US goal. I went to UVA where everyone sings the (lame but infinitely better than the goals goals song) school song after a touchdown or field goal. But we need a song that doesn't make people run for the exits.

One thing I will say is that as bad as it was being an American hearing that song so many times, it must have been 10x worse to be one of the many Panama fans there and be subjected to it. But that doesn't make it right.

    This is funny.
I heard it at RFK during the Panama game, and never had heard it before.
It sounded like some odd Gen X band, and it made me curious b/c those kinds of musical outfits don't usually do patriotic ditties.

    I have it :)

I downloaded it when it was available for download on USSoccer.com. I still play it before every game and after every US goal during the game to this day.* :)

*For those that don't know or have forgotten, I've lived overseas the last couple years so I follow the pbp live here at BS and on the USSF matchtracker and then watch the game later after I've downloaded it. I play the Star Spangled banner before the game too...immediately before the "goals, goals, goals" song and as close to when it's actually played live at the game as possible.

At the US-Honduras Gold Cup game in Chicago, we started a new cheer that was pretty fun.
