"Uruguay is playing for fun now" jajajajjajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja

So you don't want Uruguay to win any more World Cups as they have won "enough"? You're looking for a way out now. NO FAN WOULD EVER SAY THAT. You think a brazilian thinks like that? After winning 5 championships they wanna win more. What is "enough" in your book?

    Brazil - 5
    Italy - 4
    Germany -3

2 championships sure as hell aren't "enough". Boy, you really are burying your own grave here.
Hmm...I wonder why that is...and I don't think population is one of them.

is safe to say: Brazil and argentina 10 out of 10

    the rest?

this is a classic line of big soccer:
"uruguay reached holy land, we just play for fun"

The last 10 WC's? That would mean starting from Mexico '70 onwards.

    Let's see:

Argentina: 9 out of 10 (Missed Mexico '70. Peru eliminated them :p :D)
    Brazil: 10 out of 10
    Bolivia: 1 out of 10 ('94)
    Colombia: 3 out of 10 ('90, '94, '98)
    Chile: 3 out of 10 ('74, '82, '98)
    Ecuador: 2 out of 10 (2002, 2006)
    Paraguay: 4 out of 10 ('86, '98, 2002, 2006)
    Peru: 3 out of 10 ('70, '78, '82)
    Uruguay: 5 out of 10 ('70, '74, '86, '90, 2002)
    Venezuela: 0 out of 10
It really is. I'm still amazed.

Is this another "who's 3rd in S.A thread" man how the hell did I miss this?, anyways I thought you all agreed in the Last thread that Ecuador was the 3rd team in S.A, it's amazing how quickly you guys change your minds.

And to Ansewer the original question, NO there won't be any new Giants in S.A anytime soon, same way that there won't be any new Euro Giants either.

History is history, like it or not Uruguay is padeling right along with the rest and not just padeling but having enough trouble just catching up to Paraguay, more less reaching that "island".

Uruguay may have great talent, but right now their only 4th or 5th best in Conmebol and thats being very generous as they cant even manage to grab a top 4 place in qualifying.

Anybody in this forum, besides Manya's grandfather, remembers WC70 or WC74? Meaning watching or listening to the games live, not a rerun about the glorious generation. I remember a few games from WC78 including the infamous Peru-Argentina, the 3rd place match (Italy-Brazil should have been the final) and the Strange Final...

God no. I'd never say something like "we've reached holy land, we play for fun" :p :D

Although if you're gonna compare both golden ages (that is if Ecuadorians consider the 2000's their golden era), Peru has one more WC participation and a Copa America right in the middle (1975) of our golden era to show for it.

But I get what you are saying...different times and stuff. I say Ecuador has the advantage right now because of their willing for organisation and seriousness when the WCQ process begins. They are certainly a step above. We are some corrupt and irresponsable bastards. Doesn't colombia have a bit of an organisation problem too?
