I assume they'll use Major League Soccer as a proper name, especially since it appears to use the word league as an adjective. I guess it could be la ligue majeure de soccer or something. Anyways, I'd assume they'd put up a website in French. Only makes sense. I'd guess Bill 101 in Quebec would force them.
one thing i know about the quebecois is that they are very sensitive on thier french..... the lone CFL team the Alouettes have a french first pubs, most of thier marketing is in french. even on thier jerseys in french CFL= LCF so i dont see much different comming from L'Impact. yes But it would probably make sense for MLS to have a french friendly website. but the french abrriviation would most definately be different. NHL= LNH
I watch Impact games in French (I was actually born in la belle province) and noticed French announcers simply say Major League Soccer. Seems lie in spanish they em el esse (I assume that's a spanish rendition of MLS), so I think they'll view it as a name as opposed to translatable words.
Considering that we finally got people to stop saying The MLS, I hate to start having the conversation about whether we'd be La MLS or Le MLS. Just too confusing. But yes, I have no doubt there will be a Français-Canadien version of the MLS site when L'Impact join up.
Yeah I have clients in Montreal and Quebec City and a lot of the folk out there are primarily french speakers and English is the second language or they have no English at all. This doesn't strike me as a majority but a substantial group regardless. I work within the Museum Community on public access projects and I thought it was quite surprising. I thought basically everybody would be bi-lingual but that is assuming ... Not having French language versions of this will not cut it out there.

Please if you have no knowledge as to what bill 101 entails do not comment on it... And yes, there will be a french version of the MLS website..Don Garber confirmed it during a meeting with Impact supporters 3 weeks ago.
Yeah I'm sure the french site will probably like Impact centric similar to the Allouettes site where the mainly french stuff for the locale. Its not like there is a lot of french speakers compared to the spanish speakers in north america, its be nice though for the league to embrace it more.
I am not a specialist but IMHO only the Swiss (german-french-italian) and the Belgian (dutch-french-german) leagues have 3 official languages but I could be wrong of course
Just to add a bit more. In Montreal, I'd guess a minority of people (maybe one third) have only only a passing knowledge of English (know how to order a beer in English or something from what they learned in school). The rest of the population speaks English as a fluent second language (except for maybe 10% that are maternal anglos, who generally speak mostly English and stick to the west, this percentage of the population goes down each year). About 20% of the population speak a language besides English or French as a first language and they are almost expected to be trilingual, however they are more likely to speak English at home in the second generation (especially South Asians/Chinese and to lesser extent Italians) Outside Montreal, almost everyone speaks French as a first language, and has a varying but low knowledge of English (like how French people from France may speak English)
the don says the league will be TRI-lingual...making it that much better in spreading the league worldwide
