Mine would have to be "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight", although "Stonehenge" is a close second. But who am I kidding - they're all good. Also, what's your favorite Spinal Tap moment? Mine is when Mick Shrimpton explodes on stage and has to be replaced by Joe "Mama" Besser for the Japanese reunion tour.
Hands down, it has to be "Gimmee Some Money." Favorite line: "You know what I want...or maybe you don't" hee hee
Song: As David St. Hubbins called it, GSM. Moment: Getting lost on the way to the stage in Cleveland.
Song: "Tonite I'm Gonna Rock You (Tonite)" Moment: When David's girlfriend Jeanine creates the stage outfits for the band based on their astrological signs... "Here's your crab face..."
Not sure it's my favorite moment, but I've always loved the bewildered and annoyed fan at the show when they introduce "Jazz Odyessy." One guy is just sitting there with a big thumb's down held out, the other hand propping up his chin. Just one of those subtle details that make that movie rule. Oh, and I was able to convince my wife that it would be a good idea to name our four pets (2 cats, 2 dogs) : Nigel Viv Saint Derek They rock.
Song: Listen (Shhhh) To What the Flower People Say-- I love the "video." Moment: the explaination of the cricket bat and its usefullness. Also when they call Grand Forks over the announcements at an airport (we watched this over and over when I was at the U. of North Dakota) (para)Phrase - It's a fine line between genius and stupid
The deeper the cushion The better the pushin' Or so I've been told The wider the hips, and The tighter the quicksand Or so I have heard Big Bottoms
Yes, the silly sexuality of both "Sex Farm" and "Big Bottoms" is very good (though I still prefer GSM). From BB: "My lovegun's loaded, and she's in my sights Big game is waiting there inside her tights. Big Bottoms drive me out of my mind, How could I leave this behind?" Actually, that last line from BB is pretty close to genius as well.
I don't wanna get all technical on you, but after 700 viewings, I'm quite certain it's: The bigger the cushion The sweeter the pushin' That's what I said The looser the waistband The deeper the quicksand Or so I have read Classic nonetheless. A couple more gems of lines from the same song: I saw her on Monday 'Twas my lucky bun day You know what I mean I love her each weekday Each velvety cheekday You know what I mean
I was actually about to post just the opposite opinion of the commentary. I got bored very quickly listening to them stay "in character" while commenting on the film. In fact, they even started repeating the jokes FROM the film (the Stonehenge bit in particular) which just seemed very dull and unoriginal. And the bummer thing about this is that these types of movies are so uniquely made that they must have all kinds of funny stories about the process to share. Check out the commentary for "Best in Show" which is way more engrossing than the one for Tap. They discuss improv technique, character development, and so on.
You are all wrong. The best song is "Hell Hole". The best scene is when the giant devil springs a leak, and the band says, "We salute you, our half-inflated Dark Lord!"
best song: The little known piano number known simply as "lick my love pump" scene? When Nigel is doing his guitar solo, playing his guitar with a violin, and tuning the violin string ever so slightly to make it sound better. i was on the floor. laughing, that is.
I was considering listing this as my favorite moment, believe it or not. Also, when Derek tries to get through the airport security check with the cucumber codpiece in his pants, and the rest of the band is howling and cheering in the background. I have the soundtrack on CD, so I can check any lyrics you aren't sure about.
To each his own, I suppose. I enjoyed the movie-outside-the-movie thing, but I might feel different if I watch it again though. Maybe they could've done an alternate "technical" commentary?
Well, there's no such thing as a bad Spinal Tap song. They're all good, but hell hole is certainly a fine example. But your favorite scene ... isn't that from the Simpsons?
Gimme Some Money, "I'm looking for pound notes, loose change ..." Moment - Either after they meet the band that used to open for them - "We used to have to go out and apologize for them" or when they are pondering the fine line between stupid and clever
Best song is Stonehenge. "Where the demons dwel, where the banshies live and they do live well." Best scene is the one where Lick My Love Pump is being played. I just saw it on AMC over the weekeend and I still got the giggles from that scene. Bill
