Eventually all Oklahoma Counties went for Trump, though it was late for OK County, but Trump was the weakest where the highest Native populations reside
Last night @CNN called Native voters “something else”. In an election largely driven by race, the media still fails to accurately cover voters of color. For Native Americans, we’re not even named. pic.twitter.com/h2Q5iRpWWa— Rebecca Nagle (@rebeccanagle) November 4, 2020
Why does she assume they are referring to only Amerindians? Did CNN say so later on? I would imagine it is a catch all label for other. Amerindians only make up around 2% of the population, so 4% of the "something else" have to be non Amerindians.
She knows that, but thinks they should be listed in their own category (as in the Census). And “something else” is a bad choice of words. CNN could have said “other.”
An odd description. If you went to Baskin Robbins and saw Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Rocky Road and Something Else, you're not getting the Something Else.
Enjoy your Sid Vicious flavoured ice cream, folks: Edit: I apologize to all of BigSoccer for posting this video.
Maybe a few points above black women Maybe all that Pocahontas shit wasn't such a great idea. https://t.co/7XDalMYVP5— Joshua Holland (@JoshuaHol) November 6, 2020
Pretty much the same for all Reservations that aren't co-populated with white folks - IOW Oklahoma However - this is big - from the People who said "NEVER!" even after the Washington DC footballs team dropped.... Y'all, Union Public Schools are finally changing their name!!! OK Natives know just how big of a deal this is!!!https://t.co/UxApGLNsys— Tara Moses™ (@TaraTomahawk) November 7, 2020
It wasn't just that he used "Pocahontus" as an insult, but that he did so at an event honoring Navajo Code Talkers - veterans of World War Two. It was so amazingly tone deaf. Also likely impacting the Navajo vote was the staggering impact of Covid on the reservation, with precious little reaction - or even sympathy - from Trump and company. And, also, that the administration/Trump campaign only announced their plans for native communities a few weeks ago. This article from late October in the Spokesman-Review (Spokane WA) had a great overview of the Biden and Trump plans, and the regional reaction from area tribes.
This is, literally, a huge fucking deal.https://t.co/cw1URH3aGy— agent ndn (@TheAgentNDN) November 9, 2020 Clearwater Seafoods Incorporated to be Acquired by Premium Brands Holdings Corporation and a Mi'kmaq First Nations Coalition Folks that were stealing Mi'kmaq lobsters & traps and burning their trucks and catch are now going to be working for the Mi'kmaq... Referencing back to Nebraska v. Parker and reinforced by McGirt: OK Grocery Store Seeks ruling on state-tribal sales tax dispute: A Tulsa-based grocery store chain is asking a federal judge to declare that the state cannot collect sales tax from its Okmulgee grocery store because it is situated on restricted Indian land. | via @cliftonhowze https://t.co/74ByE2w4nX— The Frontier (@readfrontier) November 11, 2020 As I said then, the Parker decision is going to clean the clocks of states that have been collecting sales taxes from businesses on tribally owned / reservation / restricted / leased land. Not only will tribes be able to shut state sales tax collections and limit state jurisdiction on these lands - mineral extraction, where the feds have been taking royalties off of tribal lands are now subject to this
What's going on in Indian Country...kickin Trump's ass Joe Biden likely wouldn't have won key states without Native American voters turning out in droves for him https://t.co/9Ncjv32UyO— Jennifer Bendery (@jbendery) November 14, 2020
Told y'all this was going to happen... Seminole Nation's attempt to tax oil companies prompts swift response from Hunter, Stitthttps://t.co/UpmH60utvR— The Oklahoman (@TheOklahoman_) December 15, 2020
I thought Hunter was involved in some energy thing now. Then realized it was just OK Whitelandians doing what they do worst.
Well the "good thing" for the State is this Maybe if they can get them to hunt each other, it will be like the good old days.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2020/12/17/deb-haaland-interior-secretary-biden/ "Biden picks Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.) to be first Native American interior secretary Tribal and progressive activists lobbied hard to put an indigenous leader in charge of a department that helps oversee Indian County" Buckle up, buttercup. Is that supposed to be "Indian Country" or County? Is there one county?
She'll be great... but that's three out of a majority of three, isn't it? They better all be safe seats...
@GovStitt working hard on his anti-Tribes/pro-oil agenda in #Oklahoma after 2020 @USSupremeCourt decision declaring E. Okla NDN Country for fed criminal jurisdiction issues.
