January is still a ways off but if it wasn't clear enough over the summer, it should be clear now, Milan need to do some business. Who do you think Milan should bid for? Who should we unload? Before getting into it, I'd like to establish some guidelines for the discussion (since I can't make rules). Let's be sure to try to keep this limited to at least plausibly realistic wishes and expectations, i.e. Edin Dzeko is a legit transfer target, Messi is not. We might be able to unload Oddo or Ambrosini, but other players may not be so easy to ship out (Dinho due to wages, Favalli due to age, Onyewu due to injury [expected to last clear through the january transfer window) This isn't a dream team discussion either, try to consider the economics of the matter and recommend transfers or groups of transfers that Milan's budget can feasibly pay for. My 2 bits: I remain firmly convinced that Milan need to bring in two fullbacks or wing-backs, one for each side of the defense, perhaps even one more to provide back-up for that position. It is also tempting to suspect that we could do great things with a big-strong center-forward like Dzeko, but Huntelaar may yet silence his critics. We also have an increasingly infirm midfield which needs replacement more than our attack. Considering that I can't imagine any clubs wanting to bring in Dinho and his ridiculous wages, we're pretty much stuck with him for now. All that considered I'd say we need 2 fullbacks but I can't decide who we should go for. Cissokho would have been a great move, but we screwed that up. One move I think would suite us would be to bid for Juan Vargas of Fiorentina and play him in the left winger position. He'd give us attacking options on the left in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 and he can deputize as a left full-back which is his normal position. I wanted Milan to bid for him while he was still at Catania but he could still provide much needed pace and crosses as well as a mean left footed free kick although this time around, he'd cost Milan a good chunk of change. Another player that interests me is Wilson Palacios, currently of Tottenham Hotspur. A powerful defensive midfielder capable of making strong forays into the opponents territory. He offers a good bit of size to defend against set pieces as well. I do really like Edin Dzeko as well. I'd love to see him in a Milan jersey, but being honest, we have much bigger problems in our midfield and the fullback position, and there is only so much money in Milan's coffers. We have to rebuild the squad, and contrary to what Galliani and Berlusconi seem to think, you don't build a championship winning team based on the attack alone. As to who to offload, I think Janks Kaladze and Dida have to be at the top of the list. Antonini isn''t good enough for milan either. As long as Oddo is doing better than Zambro that we have to keep him until better options arrive. I also kind of feel like Borriello is just filling in while we wait on Paloschi to develop. Borriello is capable of great things, but we may not see them performed anytime soon and thus, he may be on the way out. Seedorf is also way past his prime and both him and Ambrosini shouldn't be starting. Gattuso I think Milan should keep. He's an inspirational character and is capable of defending in ways that few in the word can. However, he'll have to return to his pre-injury finess levels, or his place in the squad will not be held for him much longer. Dida's wages make him a liability, with the now proven hands of Storari and the Buffon-challenging performances of the now injured Abbiati, I can't see why our 3rd choice keeper is earning that much. Otherwise hopefully Beckham does for the right side of midfield what he did for it last season. Thoughts?
