Since the Sox won the series I'm interested in finding out what people think on the question of. What MLS team is cursed? Will they ever win a MLS Cup title
The way things are looking for the past 9 years I voted for my club, the Metrostars. But I surely hope that we can pass on the curse to CD Chivas next year.
MertoStars are the Cubs. Columbus is the Red Sox DC are the Yankees Dallas are the Brewers. Seriously there is no MLS team that is cursed..its only been 9 years and curses take like 30+ years to develop. If you believe in the curse that is.
Five of the teams should be eliminated from the start, as they have already won an MLS Cup: DC (3) SJ (2) KC CHI LA If we want to consider the Open Cup and Supporters' Shield as well the list of title winners is as follows: Total-Club-(MLS,SS,OC) 6 - DC - (3,2,1) 5 - CHI - (1,1,3) 4 - LA - (1,2,1) 3 - KC - (1,1,1) 2 - SJ - (2,0,0) 2 - CLB - (0,1,1) 1 - DAL - (0,0,1) 1 - TB - (0,1,0) 1 - MIA - (0,1,0) 0 - COL - (0,0,0) 0 - MET - (0,0,0) 0 - NE - (0,0,0) Of the three teams never to have won anything (COL, MET, NE), each have appeared in at least one final (MLS or OC). I think if you're looking for a cursed team, you are looking for a team that does well in general, but cannot get over the hump and win anything. Both NE and MET have had some awful teams, and COL always seems mediocre, so I don't think any team in MLS yet qualifies as being cursed. Just not enough history available.
LA is cursed first LA was the LA Bills with all losses in the Finals then they won and that sent the Bills-esque curse away. by the way I was calling my team the bills up until ruiz's goal. Now they just seem to suck. Win it all and then stink it up. Last year was horrible, and this year isn't any better. How can we not be cursed? We wound up with Tampa's GM as our own.
I'd have to disagree. The Metrostars lost their home opener in 96 against New England thanks to an own goal in the 90th minute by Nicola Caricola. "The Curse of Caricola" lives and the Metros have stunk ever since.
This maybe a silly analogy to make, but I'm going to go off baseball terms and into football terms. I think in a way the Rapids are somewhat cursed in the same way the Jets and Chiefs have put together their respective Super Bowl droughts [NYJ-SB III (1968), KC-SB IV (1969)]. Neither have been back to the Super Bowl since, and I think the Rapids, who haven't been to MLS Cup since 1997 is taking a similar route down that road.
MLS is only in its 9th season so there can't be any curses. Plus the curse has to evolve from something. Say for example the Fire never make the playoffs again for letting Zach Thornton go. Bad example considering he signed back with them at the end of the seson and never played, but I couldn't think of anything else.
"The Curse of Caricola" is real. They have stunk from the beginning. They haven't won any championships. Perhaps a new stadium will help since it was at the Meadowlands where the own goal happened.
Except it wasn't against DC United. Columbus reached the East final 3 straight years (97-99) only to lose to DCU in all 3 of those years. Plus they have a league semifinal loss to New England (2001) when the league eliminated conference segregation (is that the proper term? ) in the playoffs. So in 9 seasons (7 of them involving playoff appearances), the Crew have been one step away from the MLS Cup final 4 times and failed each time. Curse? Maybe. Tonight I'll just curse Greg Andrulis.
Completely agree with this. It's WAY too early to talk about curses in a league only 9 years old. As for the Fire might be better to say Boca and Beas instead of Thornton.
IF MLS had/has a curse clearly the two FLA teams were its 1st victim Galaxy ahve also won a GOLD cup, another CONCACAF event
If there is a curse in the league, it goes to the Metrostars. Also, I'd love to see the winning percentage of the teams Andy Williams played for.
