It won't happen...Davies at this point is too big a name for CPL especially if he were to ever approach the end he would finish his career in MLS or at best in Europe
How do you know he wouldn't retire in his hometown of Edmonton? Lots of world class player do that to. "I want to make my comeback with @FCGroningen_EN" Big news from Arjen Robben as he targets a return to his first senior club 💚pic.twitter.com/Ybxti3nQmw— FIFA (@FIFAcom) June 27, 2020 Also, after what the stunt the Vancouver Whitecaps pulled on Alphonso Davies which could have cost him his transfer to Bayern, he blacklisted them. I think he stopped following them on social media. He loves Canadian soccer above all else and if retiring would help CPL gain even more traction down the road, that's what he'll do.
So I watch the match between Pacos de Ferreira and Porto to have a good sense of where Eustaquio was. He looks as good as before his injury and I must say that the 22 years old is Canada's future at midfield. He can do it all like Atiba Hutchinson. If we can give him a midfield capable of playing at his tempo, Canada starting XI looks dangerous going forward as we already have Cavallini, Larin, Millar and Brym as CF. David can be a CF but i'd use him as an AM. in a 4-2-3-1 formation, this midfield is legit Davies (Bayern Munich, GER)-------Arfield (Rangers, SCO)---------David (Gent, BEL) ----------------------Hutchinson (Besiktas, TUR)----------Eustaquio, (Pacos de Ferreira, POR) Backup: Hoillett (Cardiff City, ENG) Borges (OH Leuven, BEL) Osorio (Toronto FC, CAN) Wotherspoon (St.Johnstone, SCO) Kaye (LAFC, USA) Fraser (Toronto FC, CAN) Piette (Montreal Impact, CAN) Stephen Eustaquio https://www.instagram.com/tv/CCDs_2sDowp/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
No I would go 4-2-3-1 but a lineup that would and should be used GK- Borjan LB- Miller CB- Cornelius CB- Didic RB- Brault Guillard CDM- Eustaquio CDM- Kaye LAM- Davies CAM- Arfield RAM- David CF- Cavallini Bench GK- Crepeau, Pantemis LB- Adekugbe, Bassong CB- Waterman RB- Laryea CDM- Fraser, Piette AM- Osorio, Hoilett CF- Larin, Millar
GK- Borjan - Yes LB- Miller - I would go with Sam Adekugbe, (Valarenga, NOR) Natural offensive minded LB playing 90 minutes every games and with chemistry with Davies on the left CB- Cornelius - Yes CB- Didic - Or Ferreira if he commits. I like Didic but I still feel that Dominick Zator is better and he can play RB as well. RB- Brault Guillard- Yes CDM- Eustaquio CDM- Kaye - Hutchinson is superior to Kaye in every possible way. But Kaye (chasing a goal or Piette to kill the game should be subs for him) LAM- Davies - Yes CAM- Arfield- Yes RAM- David - Yes CF- Cavallini - Yes Bench GK- Crepeau, Pantemis, Carducci LB- Adekugbe, Bassong, CB- Waterman, Zator, Miller RB- Laryea, Cordova CDM- Fraser, Piette AM- Osorio, Hoilett, Borges, Wotherspoon Borges is for real CF- Larin, Millar, Brym
I didn't go for Atiba because he's too old...the man is 37 right now. By Gold Cup 21 he will be 38 hence why I dropped him from my 23 man squad. Kaye makes more sense especially playing alongside Eustaquio because not only are both players capable at the CDM spot but both are offensive minded hence the pairing. Ferreira will probably commit to Portugal anyway Zator at CB yeah I can see that But you're telling me you would take Carducci over Pantemis as your 3rd choice goalkeeper? And you would choose Borges and Wotherspoon over Hoilett and Osorio in your Final 23? And you would choose Brym over Larin and Millar for Final 23? Because you have to have a 23 man squad
Atiba is a freak, still playing 90 minutes at very high level, but I wouldn't give him 90 for Canada. He obviously takes good care of himself and I can see him wanting to help for one last WCQ Après des tests effectués sur Atiba Hutchinson (38 ans), on apprend que le milieu canadien aurait un âge biologique de...21.6 ans ! (TrtSpor)INCROYABLE ! Tu n’es pas humain 😳🦾🦿@atibahutchinson pic.twitter.com/GWV3xt2vPW— Beşiktaş JK France (@_BESIKTAS_FR) June 18, 2020 Doubtful he's in Portugal's plans after his back to back knee injury. They most likely already moved on. If he's back to full health, Canada will call him. Pantemis has proved nothing while Carducci was the best keeper in CPL. Pantemis has been loaned to Winnipeg so this year will be our chance to see who's better between the 2 of them I was just adding names to show that Herdman has some choices. Borges, Wotherspoon and Brym would be on the bench with Millar
Yeah but still by next year's Gold Cup he will be 38 years old. Do you think Herdman will take a 38 year old in his squad to the Gold Cup?
Shrug. Its the balance all nations make....................balancing the NOW and an eye on the future. Is Canada better right now in 2020 with Atiba? Yes. By Gold Cup 2021? Who knows? What I do know is that the purpose of entering a tournament like the Gold Cup is to win it.
Yeah I know that but you tell me would Canada even have what it takes to win especially with a star like Atiba there
Fun fact from CONMEBOL on Canada day 🇨🇦🎉⚽ Happy #CanadaDay to all of our Canadian followers! 🤔⚫🟡 Did you know that @CanadaSoccerEN international Lucas Cavallini is the only Canadian to appear in the #Libertadores, playing two matches for @OficialCAP in 2017? pic.twitter.com/wdv9FBDKkP— CONMEBOL Libertadores (@TheLibertadores) July 1, 2020
After EPL and Bundesliga clubs, the French are entering the race to sign 20 years old Jonathan David. After reports that Lyon are interested, Lille is making a serious move for him Lille are in talks to sign Jonathan David from Gent, who want €30m - he's already spoken with Luis Campos & is Les Dogues' priority target to replace Victor Osimhen. They have Tim Weah of the USMNT We need our CONCACAF players to flock together like Dest and Davies are about to. With David, it just depends what other clubs are interested. From all the rumors I've seen there are clubs with bigger bank accounts than Lille interested. They'll lose a bidding war. Worth mentioning that neither Lille or Lyon qualified for next year's Champions League.................as far as I know.
He's not normal Atiba Hutchinson the eternal. He is set to sign a new contract by Besiktas & dreams, from a job, after end of his career, which is at the moment, not near. https://t.co/d4m7H15wr3— Canucks Abroad (@Canucks_Abroad) July 2, 2020
Looks like Cyle Larin's future is in Belgium but with a different club. He drastically improved his game in Belgium by not only being a goal scorer but became an efficient playmaker. He has 7 goals and 10 assists in 29 games. Royal Antwerp, started talks for an offer for Cyle Larin, by Besiktas Istanbul, after his last club SV Zulte Waregem, the purchase option expired due to the financial constraints of the pandemic. https://t.co/y3OL18JHL9— Canucks Abroad (@Canucks_Abroad) July 2, 2020
Turkish clubs are schizo when it comes to how they treat players. Larin is better off in Belgium. Atwerp qualified for the Europa League. They were better this year than much bigger clubs like Anderlecht and Standard. They were much, much better than Zulte Waregem...............so this is a step up for him. I'm not yet convinced about Larin in a "bigger league" than Belgium, although my mind can be changed. Of course Americans watching Belgium are most interested in what's going on with Ethan Horvath at Brugge. He was doing well there until they brought in Simon Mignolet as the #1. Ethan is likely to leave. He's won league titles at Molde in Norway and with Brugge in Belgium (technically two times, but we won't count this season as he rode the pine).
