I could not find the old thread on the last 5 pages, so I started a new one. ;)

    Results:
Bremen Cup final: Werder U19 - Blumenthaler SV 7:1 --> Werders U19 qualified for next seasons DFB cup.
    U17 German chamionship playoffs (semi-final): SV Werder Bremen U17 - VfB Stuttgart U17 1:7
No words, that match was a rip-off. Werder had a total off-day and VfB played really strong. People, who only watched this match asks themselves how this Werder team could reach rank 2 in their division. There is a 2nd match on Sunday, but that is pointless. :(

    Transfer news:
Johannes Eggestein (15) joins Werders U17 from TSV Havelse. He will share a room with his older brother Maximilian, who joined Werder two years ago. Johannes is German U17 NT player and considered a class talent. Good luck at Werder.
Janek Sternberg (20, defender, HSV II), Melvyn Lorenzen (18, left winger/forward, Holstein Kiel U19) join Werder II as new players. Florian Urbainski (23, goalkeeper, FC Oberneuland Bremen) returns to Werder II. Kevin, Otremba (19, goalkeeper), Julian Van Haake (19, defensive midfielder), Lukas Fröde (18, central defender), Marcel Hilßner (18, offensive midfielder), Tobias Schwede (19, offensive midfielder) and Davie Selke (18, forward) get promoted from Werder U19.

Florian Bruns (33, central midfielder) joins Werder II from St. Pauli as a free-transfer. The former German U21 player, born in Oldenburg (close to Bremen) collected BL experience with Freiburg and St. Pauli and is known as a good character. This season he made 18 matches in 2. BL and scored two goals. Bruns will take one of the 3 spots for players older than 23 and I would not be surprised, if Skripnik makes him the new captain (a new one is needed since Sandro Stallbaum ends his career).

Julian Dudda (20) joins Werder II from Eintracht Frankfurt II (RL South). He collected some BL matches with Frankfurt in 2011/12, but struggled to make the next step and even had problems to collect many matches for Eintracht II, especially last season. So time for a restart.

After the rip-off in the U17 BL playoff semis Werder U17 finished the season with a positive result.
In the Bremen cup final they could beat the U17 Regionalliga side SC Weyhe 6-2 and qualified with this result for next seasons U17 DFB cup.

Overall it was a good season for the Werder youth teams:
Werder U19: U19 BL North 3rd, Bremen cup win
    Werder U18: U19 RL North 6th (out of 14)
Werder U17: U17 BL North 2nd (lost in play-off semis vs. VfB Stuttgart), Bremen cup win
Werder U16: U17 RL North 1st (sadly not allowed to get promoted to BL) :)
Werder U15: U15 RL North (highest league at that level) 2nd behind HSV on goal difference :(
Werder U14: Champion in Bremen division (one level below RL) :)

Kicker made an interview with Victor Skripnik, former U17 and from this summer on reserve coach.

Kicker: Mr. Skripnik, you succeed Thomas Wolter. What do you plan to change?
Skripnik: I don't plan to turn around things completely, but to continue our way without making too radical changes. Maybe I see things a bit different [than Thomas] and I change them slightly.
Kicker: What is important for you (what is your coaching philosophy)?
Skripnik: My work principles are respect and discipline. These are also the first words I will say to my players. Who wants to make the final step into the BL successfully must stay well grounded.
Kicker: You will start with a strongly changed rooster compared to last season.
Skripnik: That is true, but it is normal. About half of the players moved to other teams. In a reserve that is a routine. Many talents come from our youth teams, we don't want to put obstacles in their way.
Kicker: With Thorsten Frings, an experienced former Werder professional is part of your coaching staff. What is planned with him?
Skripnik: The U23 is the basic station for Thorsten. He will get insides into the coaching job, he will also visit some more stations [youth teams], where he can collect experiences and learns to be a coach. It was not different for me. When I finished my career I assisted at first the U15 for some month, then the U19.

Congrats on the new signing in Johannes Eggestein, probably one of the best prospect in the country at this age after Toni Kroos

Whats the deal on Niklas Fullkrug? Will he play a lot next season? Whats his role?

This was a real coup, good work by the club to trump Hannover!
I read a story on Fulkrug in the Werder homepage around January that said he was tested on the pitch with no pain. It doesn't mean he is recovered, I haven't heard a thing since and it will be awhile yet before we find out the truth. The two or three BL matches that he played (and I watched), I recall him being subbed in the right wing clearly and the other two were CF. Werder Homepage says he played 12 games and 257 minutes (I missed alot of matches in the early season).
As far as this season goes I hope Fulkrug /Peterson are in the headlines every matchday!

Crazy, I remember playing CM 99'-00' and signing Bruns from St.Pauli to Werder as a 21 yr old!

In August? So Fullkrug will basically miss all the pre-season friendlies n preparation for the season... Wow, I doubt we'll see him play for the first team before winterbreak then

That injury rule him out for 10months? Really?

It was not only the injury, in January he got operated at a specialist in Augsburg and since then he is recovering. Transfermarkt expects him to be out until August, but I really hope he can participate at the season preparation. As you said, otherwise it would be tough for him to compete for a regular place in the team until winter.

Is Fullkrug expected to be good enough for the National team? Maybe we'll see him in a friendly before WC2014.

If he only has half a season to perform himself, its tough for him to get into the NT

The NT do not have many options uptop, thats true. But what Loew need are 3 strikers in his WC roster. Klose, Gomez and one more. No matter who the 3rd striker is, whether its Kruse, Volland, Kiessling, they are more experienced and ready than Fullkrug

Not to mention, next season strikers like Sebastian Polter and Daniel Ginczek should be the starting CFs for their new clubs. Chance of Fullkrug making it doesnt look good at all

In DFB, there are 4 top striker prospects, there are Yesil, Ducksch, Timo Werner n the future hope in Johannes Eggestein (described as "one-in-a-century" talent, need another 2-3 years tho)

That is very unlikely. He would have to make a giant jump (not a step) forward.
I don't expect any German Werder player at WC 2014.

With Schaafs departure I hope that Dutt manage to lead the young players to the first team. That was something where Schaaf and Wolter (reserve coach) massively FAILED. That Wolter is still connected with the Werder youth system is typically Werder, I hope that the youth coaches don't listen too much to him.

Walter misused Felix Kroos and Lennart Thy.

IMO, Bremen gave up on Thy way too early. Could've been more patient

New member here posting for the first time. What are your guys' thoughts on Tom Trybull as a player? Potential? Do think he will contribute to the team this year? Do you think the ankle injury will set him back for most of training or the beginning of the season?

It just kills me that injury occured and by now that GIANT step might be half as much. There's definitely room for him on the starter list in Bremen now; so I'm happy to see some new ideas up front.
Can I ask: is there a larger practice roster for the National team? Like when they prep for WC 2014 are there 50 players at a camp and then 20-something are sent to compete?

Where did Thy go btw? Felix will get a crack at the squad again this season the way Bargfrede fades in matches and look forward to this position battle. I hope Bargfrede is usurped and a further DM brought in for good measure. Phillips last two seasons have been unacceptable.

    edit* Thy is in St.Pauli

17 years old Austrian U18 player Florian Grillitsch joins Werder. The offensive midfielder scored 22 goals and 22 matches and helped underdog St. Pölten win the U18 championship over favorites like RB Salzburg or Austria Vienna. I expect him to play U19 BL with some spells at the U23.

Stark! I haven't seen Bjorn Schierenbeck in years! Grillitsch looks a bit Vulcan...how long has he been on this planet? I thought it was the Swiss that were a bit more Vulcan than the Austrians, like Roger Federer...he had his ears done - total Frodo, c'mon you can tell!

BTW, Wilkommen Flo! And now it is time to dance, again....

....HAHA! YOU THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO POST ANOTHER STUPID VIDEO!!

I know, it slows down the page loading...I will try to contain myself.
buddenbohm - sorry, I WAS JUST A LITTLE HAMMERED...no, jk! I really wanted to input on Trybull. I think it was last season, sort of by injury (that was when Bargfrede was placed on injury list [again], a stomache something(?)) and the skinny little kid played well against superior competition (maybe EE can recall?) as a defenceman. Definiteley has the English heart - Tom the Lion! I really think he can crack the squad if his injury is truly behind him.
