When I did my Legends tour and we were seated in the Press Room, Mr. Charlie George mentioned how every one of Arsenal's signings were introduced from that dais. He asked whom the room thought was the biggest signing. People said "Dennis Bergkamp" and "Thierry Henry" but Mr. George said nothing. Then an older gentleman said, "Arsene Wenger" and Mr. George nodded and said, "that man was the best signing we've ever made and he has given so much to this club. We wouldn't be what we are without him." All around me silent nods of the head acknowledged that a man who had never scored a goal or laced up a boot for the Arsenal had done more than all the world famous goal hangers who had passed through the club. Nice moment.
Yeah shit Dean, if I had have done a tour with him I would told everyone at every opportunity and tried to put it in all of my posts!!!
Excellent story Deaner. Regardless of any bragging about your Charlie George tour, or telling this Wenger story before, it's still a really great story and it says a lot of positive about both AW & CG! So thanks for sharing it... again.
I didn't have enough money for the Legends tour, but I spend the whole regular tour talking to a guy who'd been to every game since the 70's. He said I could've met Charlie if it had been any other day, but since there was no legends tour that day for some reason, I couldn't do it. I was pretty sad. But still, that guy was cool.
Well he didn't technically say he thought of leaving, he had doubts. A good thing is that all the tabloids will misconstrue that quote to say he had doubts because Dein left, but they are two seperate quotes. Gotta love them tabloids. Or not.
Yeah got you now. Just Red carded him. Cheers. Why can't people make it clear to me when someone is doing something wrong!!
Because Rick, this forum is a place of mystery where you have to work for information!! Literally that was a Catchphrase moment. To quote Roy Walker - "say what you see!!"
