Blackpool have made a deadline-day swoop for former Sunderland winger Andy Welsh after he called time on his spell in Canada. The 23-year-old has been playing for MLS side Toronto FC after leaving the Black Cats in March, but has now agreed a return to England and signed a one-year deal with the Tangerines with an option for a second year. Welsh, who started his career at Stockport, has also had loan spells with Macclesfield and Leicester before his move to the MLS. That didn't last long.... didn't it?
Trust me i didnt like him either but surely if we had a better player that can play on teh wing he would have been playing already!! And he aint so i am a bit worried, maybe MO is going for last place so he can get a good spot in the draft ???? Anywho good luck blackpool
And I thought there wasn't going to be any more good news this season. Good kid, can't fault him for trying, bloody useless though.
I guess if Welsh can go back and play Championship Football, then anyone can. They must be taking guys off the streets of Blackpool. I'm still scratching my head with this one!?!
It'd be nice if we had someone to come off the bench who could do the job for us wouldn't it. Those that want to trash Welsh can do so until they're blue in the face but at this point in time, the team is weaker for his absence. B
Weaker??? 6 games (or 7?) without a goal, and no end in sight. How much worse can it possibly be? Time to give the kids a chance and use his salary allocation properly.
Do you really believe that what is left of his unpaid salary can be utilized, at this point in the season, to bring in someone who can make a difference? Next year it will make a difference. This year, it means almost nothing. As for the kids, I'm all for giving them a chance but let's keep it in perspective. The team is weaker now than it was before. The team has less depth and less speed. For all Welsh's faults, he did help stretch the opposition defence leaving room for our more attack oriented players. B
I agree. If the team is weaker (which it is considering that we have one less guy) than it isn't weaker by much. I would much rather give young guys like Joey Melo more opportunities to play.
Time for Joey Melo to impress. Hopefully his finger is healed for this weekend end so he can be thrown into the mix. lol. I really do believe Joey is our best player on the bench, he just needs more then 15 minutes every 3rd game... C'mon Mo, use the kid, he's hungry an just got a girlfriend this weekend! Let him wooo her with his play. lol.
I have to agree with you on this. As much as I didn't really rate Welsh, getting rid of him is useless without any replacements. RSL recently signed 3 Argentine players for relatively cheap. It would have been nice if TFC did something similar, even if it was only one player. With MoJo's unwillingness to use subs and sometimes reluctance to use the young guys, I can't see the Welsh move as a step forward at the moment.
