Sounds like an interesting player, but I think I would have preferred Avila. Must be something going on with this kid that the general public doesn't know for him to have dropped this far.
Yeah. I guess there were other players I would have taken, but.... I didn't watch any college ball, I didn't see the combine, I didn't talk to any coaches..... I'm going to trust in Yallop and Doyle's pick.
More observations from 3rd Degree.... Day One Scouting Report: Day Two Scouting Report: Day Three Scouting Report: *Salinas doesn't show up as having done anything to change Buzz's opinion, so no comments. However, in the comments, Buzz is asked about wide midfielders, and he says:
I think you're exactly right. This guy is supposed to be FAST! He'll be a wing player, and I bet he is like Ian Russell this year, and I hope he will develop into a Mullan-ish player soon after. Then, I hope he develops even further into a "Salinas"! The hint is there when Buzz says "Good ball technique". Sounds more Mullan-ish than Russell-ian.
You're right, I am happy. "Blazing fast". As conservative as Yallop tends to be, he does seem to like to have a real fast player or two.
I wonder, if he wants to recreate Quakes circa 2001 with mostly holding center mid tandem (Ekelund-Mulrooney), and fast wingers...
Yallop must have seen something special in this kid besides speed to pick him over Lowry. I thought if Lowry slipped all the way #15 he would have been a sure pick for the Quakes. I like the Salinas pick. You know what they say "speed kills!".
Sounds like he can be used right away, or close to it, to spread defenses...and maybe be developed into a service provider too.
Welcome Shea, Now , if you will only sign here, we'll get started and.... what? ...oh that? ignore that, its just some legal text about disowning any and all friendships you may have in the greater Los Angeles area, and having to take part in a piñata ritual.
I'm trying to collect some comments from other people too: Ives ranked him as the #8 midfielder (!), but he didn't make the "standouts" or "strugglers" list from Days Two or Three. From Day One, Ives says this: That bolded bit makes him sound Mullan-ish to me. And overall, Ives says:
The MLSnet mock draft had him going at 28th to LA. But the highlights they have of him make it look like he might need a year or two to get to Russell-ian heights. You'll have to scroll to the bottom of this page and click on the "Highlights" button. http://web.mlsnet.com/mls/events/su...16&content_id=135569&vkey=draft2008&fext=.jsp I haven't been able to get the links to work well. Sorry. Resident poster Zman had this to say in his mock draft: Other BS Posters, Bonji and Emile had this to say at their website:
If he wants the right wing position, he will have a tough time beating very good veteran named-----Ivan Guerrero...go quakes
from MLSnet.com "Played for the Carolina Dynamo of the PDL (2007)" well, people have wanted a wing midfield player who played for the Dynamo. I, too, am here all week. I like the choice. And as someone pointed out earlier, certainly looks like a classic Yallop 4-4-2 right now, with wingers flanking holding central midfielders. Tony
http://web.mlsnet.com/t110/news/article.jsp?content_id=01182008 From the SJ Quakes site on picking Shea Salinas. Frank says Shea can play both wings. Shea says he wants to be in SJ. Pretty good to me.
Those descritptions from Third-Degree sound alot like the way Ian Russell played his first year or two.
